When the valleys and tips of the signal disk alternate through sensors with permanent magnets and coils, an alternating magnetic field is generated, causing the coil to produce a sine induced voltage,

The voltage intensity and frequency are related to the rotational speed. The higher the rotational speed, the stronger the induced electromotive force. The magneto electric speed sensor itself is equivalent to an AC generator, so the magneto electric speed sensor generates AC power.

Since the voltage is generated by mutual inductance between the two, the installation gap should not be too large, generally between 0.3-2mm.

This type of sensor is commonly used on the crankshaft and camshaft of the engine to calculate the engine speed and determine the cylinder. Some speed sensors on automatic transmissions also use this form of sensor.
