A Brief Discussion on Cross linked Cables in the Cable Industry
Currently atCross linked cableIn production, there are two commonly used insulation plastics, namely polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride. Polyethylene materials have good electrical properties and cross-linking properties; In the production and laying of cables, the insulation layer hardness and strength of commonly used cross-linked cables are relatively high.
In general, cables manufactured by the warm water cross-linking method may have insufficient cross-linking degree, which may be due to the discontinuous cross-linking process used, inability to control automatically, and susceptibility to human influence. At present, cross-linked cables are widely used in urban power grids, smart grids, mining cables, and so on.
Some consumers may confuse plastic cables and cross-linked cables, as they have both differences and similarities. Plastic cables can be cross-linked cables, but cross-linked cables are not necessarily plastic cables. Many materials can be cross-linked. Plastic power cable refers to a type of cable with plastic insulation and sheath, while cross-linked cable is a type of cable with cross-linked material used for the insulation layer.
The main differences between the two are: firstly, in terms of insulation materials, the insulation material for plastic cables is polyvinyl chloride, which can withstand temperatures up to 70 degrees, while the insulation material for cross-linked cables is cross-linked polyethylene, which can withstand temperatures up to 90 degrees; Secondly, in terms of voltage endurance range, the maximum voltage endurance of plastic cables is 3KV, and the maximum voltage endurance of cross-linked cables is 220KV. However, in terms of environmental protection function, PVC materials have poor degradability and pose a certain threat to the environment if discarded.
Editor's summary: With the development of power grid construction and the power industry, the scale of wire and cable enterprises is gradually increasing, and the domestic cable industry will usher in more opportunities. The excellent electrical performance of cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables has led to their widespread application, and it is believed that cross-linked cables will play their role in more fields in the future.
