There are more than one method for calculating magnification of a digital microscope
Date: 2021-09-13Read: 8
Digital microscope, also known as video microscope, converts the physical images seen by the microscope into images through digital to analog conversion, and images them on the microscope's built-in screen or computer.
Generally, conventional digital microscopes are implemented using a third lens combined with CCD or CMOS. If you have purchased a traditional second lens stereo, biological, or metallographic microscope, how should you implement it? This requires not only not phasing out the products we originally purchased, but also saving costs to achieve digitalization. At the same time, we can directly use computer screens to observe the products, which better protects our eyes. This needs to be achieved through some modifications. We should know that the target size of CCD or COMS is closely related to the magnification, and its size directly affects the magnification of the digital microscope. So how do digital microscopes calculate magnification? Please continue reading:

Formula calculation method
1. Total magnification=objective magnification * digital magnification;
2. Objective magnification=Large objective magnification * Lens magnification;
3. Digital magnification=monitor size * 25.4/CCD target diagonal size;
4. The diagonal size of the CCD target surface: 1/3 'is 6mm1/2' is 8mm2/3 'is 11mm;
Example: The standard host of 0.7X-4.5X is equipped with a 1/3 'CCD camera and a 14' monitor;
5. Digital magnification: 14 * 25.4/6=59.3X;
6. Total magnification: (0.7X-4.5X) * 59.3=41.5X-266.9X;
7. So with this configuration, the total magnification can be continuously adjusted between 41.5X and 266.9X;

Directly measure the image
Place the micrometer under the microscope, then use a ruler to directly measure the length of the micrometer on the display. Divide the measurement result of each grid on the display by the actual length of each grid on the micrometer (usually marked directly on the micrometer)=the magnification of the object. The magnification of the object divided by the current objective lens is equal to the digital magnification. Usually, a scale bar is added to the image to indicate the magnification of the object.
Tip: If you don't have a micrometer, you can use a ruler instead. As the accuracy of a regular ruler is not very high, you can measure a few more grids during calculation to reduce measurement errors.
