GB5455 Specification for Preparation of Samples for Textile Vertical Combustion Tester
Sample preparation is a crucial step in the vertical combustion testing of GB5455 textiles. The specifications and condition of the sample directly affect the accuracy of the test results, and the following preparation specifications must be strictly followed:
Sampling principle
Sampling should be representative, randomly sampling from different parts of the textile to be tested, avoiding taking fabric from edges, defects, or splices.
For mass-produced textiles, it is necessary to sample according to the sampling plan of relevant standards to ensure that the samples can represent the combustion performance of the entire batch of products.
If the textile has a coating, printing, composite structure, etc., the sampling must ensure that the tested surface is consistent with the fire exposed surface of the product during actual use, and the coating or composite layer must not peel off.
Sample size requirements

According to the GB5725 standard, the standard dimensions of the specimen are 300mm ± 3mm in length and 80mm ± 3mm in width.
If the width of the textile is less than 80mm, the splicing method can be used to prepare the sample. When splicing, the edges of the two fabrics should overlap by 10mm-20mm and be fixed with stitching. The splicing should be flat and not affect the hanging state of the sample. GB5455 Touch Screen Textile Vertical Combustion Tester (GB5725 Vertical Flame Retardant Performance Tester) The GB5455 Touch Screen Controlled Textile Vertical Combustion Tester, developed and produced by Beijing Xinsheng Zhuorui Technology Co., Ltd. and Xunyu Technology Co., Ltd., is an upgraded product based on the original equipment technology. It adopts touch screen control and has a high degree of automation in testing. In addition to the automation functions that rely on various buttons and tools, the touch screen control model can store past test data and retrieve it during testing. This device is suitable for various fabrics and their products such as safety nets, protective equipment, and seat belts, and is ultimately applicable to the test method for the combustion performance of vertical textile bottom edges when ignited as specified in the GB5455-2014 standard.
Design standard: GB5455-2014 "Determination of vertical release damage length, smoldering and reigning time of textile combustion performance" Applicable standard: GB 8965.1-2009; GB6529 ; GB5725; GB/T 6096; GBT13489。

The length direction of the sample should be consistent with the warp or weft direction of the textile. If it is necessary to test the combustion performance of the warp and weft directions separately, markings should be made on the sample.
Sample Preparation Specification
Humidity conditioning treatment: place the prepared sample in a standard atmospheric environment with a temperature of 20 ℃± 2 ℃ and a relative humidity of 65% ± 5% for more than 24h, so that the sample can reach a temperature and humidity balance.
Special treatment: For textiles that require pre-treatment such as washing or dry cleaning, they must be pre treated according to relevant product standards before humidity control and testing.
The pre treated sample must be free from deformation, damage, and detachment of the coating or composite layer.
Sample marking and storage
Each sample should be clearly labeled with product name, batch, sampling direction (warp/weft), sample number, and other information to avoid confusion.
The sample after humidity adjustment should be tested immediately. If it cannot be tested in time, the sample should be sealed in a plastic bag to prevent temperature and humidity changes from affecting the state of the sample.
