float flow meterThe measurement range needs to be determined comprehensively based on the characteristics of the medium, operating parameters, installation conditions, and accuracy requirements. It is usually achieved through selection calculations, experimental calibration, or manufacturer recommendations. Here are the specific steps and key points:
The float flowmeter reflects the flow rate by the rising height of the float in the conical tube, and its measurement range is determined by the following factors:
example
Measure water at room temperature (20 ℃) with a density of 1000 kg/m ³ and a design flow range of 5-50 m ³/h.
If measuring steam, it is necessary to provide saturated steam pressure (such as 0.7 Ma) to calculate density (approximately 4.1 kg/m ³).
Liquid measurement:
Select directly based on volumetric flow rate, but ensure that the flow rate is within the range of 30% -70% of the measuring range (to avoid float shaking at low flow rates or overtravel at high flow rates).
Example: If the design flow rate is 5-50 m ³/h, a flow meter with a range of 10-60 m ³/h can be selected.
Gas measurement:
The standard state flow rate (Nm ³/h) needs to be converted into the operating flow rate (Q), and the formula is:
among which
example
The standard flow rate is 100 Nm ³/h, the operating pressure is 0.5 MPa, and the temperature is 300 K. Therefore, the operating flow rate is:
A flow meter with a range of 22.3 m ³/h (such as 10-30 m ³/h) needs to be selected.
Manufacturer selection table:
Provide parameters such as medium, density, temperature, pressure, etc. The manufacturer's selection table can directly provide recommended ranges.
Example: Selection table for metal tube float flowmeter from a certain manufacturer:
| medium | Density (kg/m ³) | Temperature (℃) | Pressure (MPa) | Recommended range (m ³/h) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| water | 1000 | 20 | 1.6 | 2-20 |
| air | 1.2 | 25 | 0.1 | 10-100 |
Online selection software:
Some manufacturers provide online selection tools (such as Endress+Hauser's Flowcalc), which automatically generate selection reports after inputting parameters.
Experimental calibration:
For special media or complex working conditions, the actual range can be determined through experimental calibration. For example:
Confusing standard state and operating flow rate:
When measuring gases, if the standard flow rate is not converted to the operating flow rate, it may lead to incorrect range selection (such as selecting a range that is more than 10 times smaller).
Neglecting changes in medium density:
The density of liquid changes slightly with temperature (such as a change of about 0.5%/10 ℃ in water density), but the density of gas changes significantly (such as a decrease of about 3.5% in density when the air temperature increases by 10 ℃), and the range needs to be recalculated.
Not considering the influence of viscosity:
High viscosity media (such as lubricating oil) will reduce the rising speed of the float, so it is necessary to choose a large float or a design with a guide rod, and appropriately expand the range.
Risk of over range operation:
Actual flow exceeding the upper limit of the measuring range may cause the float to impact the top of the cone tube, which may damage the float or sensor. Flow alarm or interlock protection should be set up.
