Working principle of impeller flowmeter

Impeller flowmeterUtilize the mechanical kinetic energy of fluids to rotate impellers (similar to the propellers of a river boat). The blades on the rotor are inserted into the fluid flow, converting the kinetic energy in the fluid flow into rotational force, causing the rotor to rotate on the shaft. When the fluid flows faster, the rotational speed of the impeller will also increase accordingly. The rotation of the shaft can be sensed through mechanical means or by detecting the movement of the blades.

The movement of the blade is usually detected by magnetic force, and each blade or embedded metal blade generates a magnetic pulse when it rotates to the magnetic block.When the fluid moves faster, more pulses are generated.In this way, the transmitter can determine the fluid flow rate by processing the pulse signal.

Impeller flowmeterMeasure the flow velocity of liquids in pipelines, used for chemicals, water, and other liquids. If installed carefully, high-precision measurement results can be obtained. This type of flowmeter measures the flow rate at the edge of the fluid, so it is affected by changes in viscosity. The most common use is in systems where other variables such as pH/ORP, conductivity, pressure, temperature, and liquid level are monitored in fluids such as water. All sensors are installed in the same pipeline and connected to a controller/transmitter. Although the plug-in impeller flowmeter has temperature and pressure limitations, it has a wide range of applications. The impeller flowmeter is particularly suitable for use in liquid transportation and distribution systems in the water and chemical industries. It has various applications in the food, beverage, and chemical industries.

Precautions for using impeller flowmeter

Due to the resistance of the rotor/bearing, the rotor speed will be slowed down, resulting in lower accuracy of the impeller flowmeter at low flow rates.Ensure that these flow meters operate at more than 5% of their range.And the impeller flowmeter should not operate at high speed, as premature bearing wear and/or damage may occur.Be careful when measuring non lubricating fluids, as bearing wear can cause the flow meter to become inaccurate and malfunction.In some applications, it may be necessary to regularly replace sensors and increase maintenance costs.Not recommended for use in dirty liquids.When the high failure rate is unacceptable, a plug-in electromagnetic flowmeter can be used as a substitute.In short, the moving parts of the impeller flowmeter will wear or degrade over time and use.

Should be avoidedThe medium in the gas-liquid transition state can cause mechanical stress on the flowmeter, reduce accuracy, and even damage the flowmeter.These situations usually occur when filling the pipeline or when there may be a possibility of plunger formation.The medium with two-phase flow conditions can also lead to inaccurate flow meter measurements.
