Application of Jiangsu Runyi External Clamp Ultrasonic Flow Meter in Turbine Oil Pipeline
Date: 2025-09-18Read: 6

Recently, the external clamp type ultrasonic flowmeter produced by the company has been installed and used in the turbine oil pipeline. Last month, a customer from Hubei purchased an external clamp type ultrasonic flowmeter for measuring turbine oil produced by our company. After completing the process from on-site working conditions, selection, to procurement, production, ordering, and delivery, the customer was very satisfied with our company's pre-sales, in sales, and after-sales services after receiving the goods and installing them on site. They expressed that they would contact us directly if there were any instrument products they needed to purchase in the future.

The externally clamped ultrasonic flowmeter for measuring steam turbine oil has a pipeline diameter of 80 to 150, a temperature of 70 ℃, a power supply of 24V, an output of 4-20mA and RS485 communication protocol, and a cable signal line of 10m * 2. The externally clamped ultrasonic flowmeter is a device that uses ultrasonic technology to measure the flow rate of liquid in pipelines. Its innovative feature is non-contact measurement, which means that there is no need to open holes in the pipeline or directly contact the fluid, and only the sensor needs to be clamped outside the pipeline to complete the collection of flow data. This design reduces interference with fluid flow and avoids potential pressure loss or pollution issues.

So the working principle of the turbine oil external clamp ultrasonic flowmeter is as follows:

1、 Application of Ultrasonic Propagation and Time Difference Measurement

The working principle of the steam turbine oil external clamp ultrasonic flowmeter is usually measured using the time difference method. Its working principle is to emit and receive ultrasonic signals through a pair of sensors. These two sensors are usually installed in pairs on the outer wall of the pipeline, one upstream and one downstream. When ultrasound propagates in a fluid, its propagation speed in the downstream direction (from upstream to downstream) will increase, while its propagation speed in the upstream direction (from downstream to upstream) will decrease. The instrument can calculate the fluid velocity and flow rate by accurately measuring the propagation time difference in these two directions, combined with parameters such as the cross-sectional area of the pipeline.

This method relies on the propagation characteristics of sound waves in the medium, so it is more effective for liquids that are uniform and have certain acoustic conductivity, such as water, oil, etc. However, for fluids with high gas content or a large number of particles, measurement accuracy may be affected to some extent.

2、 Precautions for Installation and Use of Turbine Oil External Clamp Ultrasonic Flow Meter

The installation of the turbine oil external clamp ultrasonic flowmeter is relatively simple, but some details need to be paid attention to. The outer wall of the pipeline needs to be cleaned and leveled to ensure that the sensor is fully adhered to the surface of the pipeline and to avoid air gaps affecting the propagation of ultrasonic waves. The installation location of sensors should be chosen as much as possible in sections with less pipeline vibration and stable fluid flow. The material and wall thickness of the pipeline can also affect the measurement, so it is usually necessary to input relevant parameters for calibration before use.

It is worth mentioning that this flowmeter is suitable for pipelines made of various materials, including metal, plastic, etc., but the sound conduction characteristics of different materials are different and need to be set according to the actual situation.

3、 Applicable scenarios and limitations

The turbine oil external clamp ultrasonic flowmeter is widely used in industries such as water treatment, energy, chemical, food and beverage. For example, in urban water supply systems, it can be used to monitor pipe network flow; In industrial production, it can be used for measuring circulating water or chemical liquids. Due to its non-invasive nature, it is also particularly suitable for situations where interruption of the process is not allowed or direct contact with the fluid is not possible.

However, it also has certain limitations. For example, for low flow rates or small pipe diameters, measurement errors may be significant; In addition, if the fluid contains a large number of bubbles or solid particles, the ultrasonic signal may be scattered or attenuated, thereby affecting accuracy. When choosing to use an external clamp ultrasonic flowmeter, it is necessary to consider the actual fluid properties and working conditions comprehensively.

4、 Maintenance and common problems of turbine oil external clamp ultrasonic flowmeter

Due to the sensor being installed outside the pipeline, the maintenance of the external clamp ultrasonic flowmeter is relatively simple. In daily use, it is necessary to pay attention to keeping the sensor surface clean and avoiding dirt or corrosion that may affect signal transmission. After long-term use, recalibration may be necessary to ensure data accuracy.

Common problems include signal loss, reading fluctuations, etc., which are often related to improper installation, changes in fluid properties, or environmental interference. When encountering such situations, you can first check whether the sensor is installed firmly, whether the pipeline parameter settings are correct, and then gradually investigate other possibilities.
