Maintenance plan for measurement accuracy of ultrasonic open channel flowmeter
Date: 2025-09-09Read: 7

Ultrasonic open channel flowmeter, as an efficient and accurate flow measurement tool, is widely used in hydrological monitoring, environmental governance, agricultural irrigation and other fields. It calculates fluid flow based on water level height through non-contact measurement method combined with measuring weir trough, and has advantages such as wide measurement range, strong environmental adaptability, and outstanding anti-interference ability. However, during the long-term operation of the equipment, the measurement accuracy may gradually decrease due to factors such as environment, installation, and maintenance. This article is based onWL-1A1Based on the technical characteristics of the ultrasonic open channel flowmeter and industry practical experience, a systematic measurement accuracy maintenance plan is proposed, covering four modules: daily maintenance, regular calibration, fault diagnosis, and environmental management.

1、 Daily maintenance: Detail management ensures basic accuracy

(1) Sensor cleaning and protection

Sensors are the core components of ultrasonic open channel flow meters, and their surface cleanliness directly affects signal transmission efficiency.Daily inspectionA soft cloth dipped in neutral cleaning agent should be used to gently wipe the surface of the probe, avoiding the use of strong acids, alkalis, or abrasive substances to prevent damage to the acoustic coupling layer. For heavily polluted areas (such as sewage treatment plants), it is recommended to shorten the cleaning cycle to once a week and equip it with dust covers to reduce dust and oil stains.

(2) Cable and interface inspection

Loose or aged cable connections are common causes of signal attenuation. Monthly inspections should confirm that the power and signal line interfaces are free from oxidation and corrosion, and that the wiring terminals are securely fastened without looseness. ForRS485/ModbusInterface, it is recommended to use shielded twisted pair cables and ensure a distance from the power cable≥0.5Rice, laid in metal pipes to reduce electromagnetic interference.

(3) Environmental adaptability management

The equipment protection level needs to match the on-site environment. For example,IP68The level probe can be immersed in water for a long time, but it is necessary to avoid direct sunlight that may cause the shell to age;IP66The level instrument box should be installed in a ventilated and dry place to prevent the accumulation of condensed water. In winter, it is necessary to install a self limiting temperature tracing strip (temperature setting) for the probe≥5℃)To prevent icing from affecting measurements; Check the grounding resistance in summer(≤4Ω)To prevent lightning strikes from damaging the circuit.

2、 Regular calibration: scientific verification ensures data reliability

(1) Calibration cycle and standards

According to industry standards, ultrasonic open channel flow meters need to be calibrated at least once a year. For scenarios with high precision requirements (such as environmental pollution monitoring), it is recommended to shorten it to once every six months. Calibration requires the use of standard open channel facilities, in conjunction with high-precision level gauges (error)≤±0.5mm)And the flowmeter (error)≤±1%)Calculate the average flow rate using the cross-sectional area method and compare it with the displayed value of the equipment.

(2) Calibration methods and steps

Static calibration: Adjust the zero point of the equipment and eliminate zero drift when there is no flow rate in the channel.

Dynamic calibration: Select the minimum flow rate(Qmin)Common traffic(Qnom)Maximum flow rate(Qmax)Measure the liquid level at three points using a manual ruler, input it into the weir flow formula to calculate the theoretical value, and compare it with the displayed value of the equipment. If the error exceeds±2%, needs to be adjustedKCoefficient or recalibrate probe height.

Multi channel verification: For multi-channel devices, it is necessary to check the signal strength of each channel(≥80%)Compared to transmission time(0.98~1.02)Ensure the uniformity of flow velocity measurement.

(3) Parameter optimization and backup

After calibration, it is necessary to backup the equipment parameters (such as channel geometry, slope coefficient, liquid level alarm threshold) and import a custom cross-sectional area table (for non-standard weirs) to improve the accuracy of flow calculation. At the same time, update the device firmware and fix known algorithm defects.

3、 Troubleshooting: Quick response to restore measurement

(1) Abnormal reading handling

Unstable reading: Check if the installation location is close to the vibration source (such as pump, motor), or if there are devices that change the flow state (such as elbows, valves). Solution: Move the sensor to the upstream straight pipe section(≥15D)Or downstream straight pipe section(≥5D)And install a stabilizing plate.

Low reading: Clean the surface attachments of the probe (such as algae and scale), or adjust the probe height to the design liquid level range (usually0.3~1.5Rice). For example, in a certain sewage treatment plant, the probe was obstructed by floating objects, resulting in a low flow display value30%After cleaning, restore to±1%Error.

No flow rate display: Check power supply voltage(DC6V~24V)Connect to the signal line and use an oscilloscope to confirm that the ultrasonic pulse emission is normal. If the probe is damaged, it needs to be replaced with a component of the same model and recalibrated.

(2) Environmental interference elimination

Electromagnetic interference: Harmonics generated by devices such as frequency converters and motors may interfere with signal transmission. Solution: Use shielded cables and grounding resistors≤4ΩAnd stay away from sources of interference≥1Rice.

Bubble effect: A large number of bubbles in the fluid can cause sound wave attenuation. An anti foaming device needs to be installed upstream of the channel, or the probe angle needs to be adjusted (perpendicular to the liquid level)±5°).

4、 Environmental management: source control extends equipment lifespan

(1) Channel maintenance

Regularly clean up debris (such as plastic bags and tree branches) in the channel to prevent blockage of the weir throat. For the Bacher groove, check the scaling situation on the inner wall of the throat every quarter and use a high-pressure water gun to flush to ensure even flow velocity distribution.

(2) Temperature and humidity control

The operating temperature range of the equipment needs to be strictly controlled within-35℃~80℃(No icing state). In high temperature environments, it is necessary to install a cooling fan for the instrument box; In low-temperature environments, insulation materials should be used to wrap the probe cable.

(3) Data recording and analysis

Through the built-in deviceMiniSDCard or remote communication module, regularly exporting historical data and analyzing the smoothness of traffic curves. If data mutation or zeroing is found, it is necessary to investigate instrument faults (such as loose probes) or process problems (such as pump shutdown) based on the working conditions.

5、 Typical case: Practical verification of the effectiveness of the plan

The monitoring project of a drainage pipe network in a certain city adoptsWL-1A1Ultrasonic open channel flowmeter, with measurement errors of up to±5%By implementing the following measures:

Adjust probe height: Move the original installation position (from the liquid level)0.2Elevate to meters0.5Rice, eliminate near-field interference;

Installing a stabilizing plate: upstream of the channel5Install deflectors at the meter level to reduce flow fluctuations;

Quarterly calibration: Dynamic verification and correction using standard triangular weirsKCoefficient.

sutra3Months of optimization, measurement error remains stable at±1%Within, the annual maintenance cost is reduced40%.

Conclusion

The maintenance of measurement accuracy of ultrasonic open channel flowmeter requires construction“prevention-monitor-correction”Closed loop management system. Through daily refined maintenance, scientific calibration, rapid fault response, and environmental source control, equipment reliability can be significantly improved and service life can be extended. ForWL-1A1For this type of equipment, it is recommended to develop a personalized maintenance plan based on the on-site working conditions and regularly train operation and maintenance personnel to ensure the effective implementation of the plan.
