SYSTEST Jinan Sike tape peeling test machine: 180 degree peeling test method
Date: 2025-12-17Read: 7

The 180 degree peel test is a standard method for measuring the force required for tape to peel off from the surface of the adhesive at a 180 degree angle under specific conditions. The core is to ensure a constant peel angle and uniform speed.

Test principle of SYSTEST Jinan Sike tape peeling tester

The 180 degree peel test is conducted by fixing one end of the tape toSYSTEST Jinan SikeThe upper fixture of TSL electronic tensile testing machine is attached to a standard adhesive (usually stainless steel plate or polyester film) at the other end, and then fixed to the lower fixture. The testing machine stretches upwards at a set speed, causing the tape to peel off from the surface of the adhesive at a 180 degree angle. At the same time, the force changes during the peeling process are recorded, and the average peeling strength is finally calculated.

Preparation before the experiment

  1. 1. Sample preparation: Cut at least 3 samples with a width of 25mm (or 15mm, subject to specific standards) and a length of approximately 200mm from the tape roll. If the tape has a backing paper, it is necessary to remove the backing paper first to ensure that the adhesive surface is free of stains and wrinkles.

  2. 2. Preparation of adhesive: The commonly used adhesive is stainless steel plate (in accordance with GB/T 2792 standard) or polyester film. The surface needs to be wiped clean with alcohol to remove oil and dust, and dried before use. The size of the adhesive should be larger than the sample to ensure that there is enough part fixed on the fixture after bonding.

  3. 3. Equipment preparation: The tape peeling test machine must comply with GB/T 2792 or ISO 11339 standards to ensure that the fixture can firmly fix the sample and the peeling angle can be stably maintained at 180 degrees. Set the test speed, usually 300mm/min (or 100mm/min, adjusted according to product standards), and calibrate the force sensor.

SYSTEST Jinan SikeTSL electronic tensile testing machine test steps

  1. 1. Sample bonding: Evenly bond the adhesive surface of the tape sample onto the cleaned surface of the object to be bonded. Use a 2kg standard roller to roll back and forth twice at a speed of 300mm/min to ensure a tight bond and no bubbles. After bonding, place the sample in a standard environment (temperature 23 ± 2 ℃, relative humidity 50 ± 5%) for at least 24 hours, or for the time specified in the product standard.

  2. 2. Sample clamping: Peel off about 50mm of the adhesive tape from one end of the "tape object" component that has been bonded together, and fix the free end of the peeled tape to the upper fixture of the testing machine. Fix the other end of the adhesive to the lower fixture of the testing machine, adjust the fixture position, and ensure that the angle at the tape peeling point is strictly maintained at 180 degrees, and the sample is not stretched or relaxed.

  3. 3. Start the test: Start the testing machine and stretch it at the set speed (such as 300mm/min). The testing machine automatically records the real-time force value during the peeling process. The test will continue until the tape peeling length reaches 100mm (or the effective length specified by the product standard), and the test will automatically stop.

  4. 4. Data recording and calculation: Export the peel force displacement curve from the testing machine data system, remove the unstable segment (the first 20mm) and the last segment (the last 20mm) in the initial stage of the curve, and take the average force value of the middle effective segment.

Attention: ① The test environment should be stable, as temperature and humidity fluctuations can affect the adhesive properties of the tape, resulting in biased results. ② The weight and speed of the rolling wheel must meet the standards, and uneven force should be avoided during fitting to prevent the generation of bubbles. ③ If the tape breaks during the peeling process instead of separating from the adhesive layer and the adhered object, a new sample test should be taken and noted in the report
