Underwater sensor supplier Impact Subsea announces launch of its ISA500 seriesaltimeterAdd a new feature to the echo sounder - ECHOGRAM

This new feature adds complete backscatter capability to the ISA500, allowing the underwater altimeter to be upgraded to have full single beam imaging sonar functionality.

underwateraltimeterUsually only a single range reading for each ping is provided. However, with the addition of ECHOGRAM, the water column and seabed can be visualized, allowing for visual recognition of targets. This provides up to 2000 samples for each ping, each representing the relevant level returned by the acoustic signal at a specific point within that range.

The ISA500 is available in two materials: titanium or acetaldehyde, and can be used at depths ranging from 1000 meters to 11000 meters. It can also be equipped with or without integrated AHRS, providing heading, pitch, and roll. In addition, it can also be used as part of a submerged component detection system.

Ben Grant, Managing Director of Impact Subsea Ltd, said: "Since the launch of ISA500 in 2015, we have been adding functionality and features to this series of sensors. We are very excited about the increase in backscatter function. As a firmware update, this feature can be enabled for all ISA500 sensors, even the first batch of sensors produced in 2015.

Through firmware and software upgrades, ECHOGRAM functionality can be added to all ISA500 altimeters and a one-time activation license can be completed.
