How high can membrane pumps withstand temperatures, and how high can pneumatic diaphragm pumps withstand temperatures
Many users are not familiar with how high the diaphragm pump can withstand temperatures. Whether it is an electric diaphragm pump or a pneumatic diaphragm pump product, diaphragm accessories are indispensable. The diaphragm materials mainly include fluororubber, Shandao rubber, polyether rubber, EPDM rubber, and polytetrafluoroethylene. If the temperature resistance of the diaphragm is not considered, the pneumatic diaphragm pump uses stainless steel material, which can withstand temperatures up to 600 degrees Celsius. However, diaphragm pumps must use diaphragm plates, so how high the diaphragm pump can withstand temperatures depends on the temperature it has been subjected to. Below, we will share various diaphragm pump body materials and the temperature resistance of different diaphragm plate materials for reference and selection of suitable diaphragm pump products:
If the pump body material is made of polypropylene (PP), the pneumatic diaphragm pump made of PP material can resist moderate corrosion, good chemical resistance, low cost, and good universality. Polypropylene material is mainly suitable for ordinary acidic and alkaline liquids. Plastic pneumatic diaphragm pumps made of polypropylene can only withstand high temperatures up to 65 degrees, and polypropylene plastic will deform beyond this value.
The pump body is made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) material. This series of pneumatic diaphragm pumps belongs to the fluoroplastic pneumatic diaphragm pump, also known as corrosion-resistant pneumatic diaphragm pump products. The diaphragm plates that come into contact with liquids are all made of polytetrafluoroethylene material. Pneumatic diaphragm pumps made of PVDF material are mainly suitable for strong corrosiveness, acid and alkali resistance, and mainly suitable for transporting multiple chemical liquids containing solvents. The corrosion resistance effect is particularly good. This series of fluoroplastic pneumatic diaphragm pumps has high temperature resistance within 93.3 degrees.
The pump body material of polyoxymethylene also has good solvent resistance and wear resistance, low friction resistance, and low moisture absorption. The high temperature of such pump bodies is within 65.5 degrees.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane has excellent corrosion resistance. Except for molten metal lithium, potassium, sodium, chlorine trifluoride, high-temperature oxygen trifluoride, and liquid fluorine with relatively high flow rates, it can transport almost all chemical liquids (including concentrated nitric acid and aqua regia). PTFE material can withstand high temperatures up to 176.6 degrees Celsius. However, when used in diaphragm pump products, due to the back and forth movement of the membrane, we recommend using it within a temperature range of 120 degrees Celsius, provided that the pump body is made of metal material. The pump body made of plastic material, namely PVDF material, has a high temperature resistance of no more than 93.3 degrees.
5. Fluororubber film has ideal corrosion resistance and can be used to transport various acidic media (including medium concentration oxidizing acid liquids), alkaline liquids, salt media, oil media, hydrocarbon media, etc. Fluororubber has a high temperature resistance of 176.6 degrees Celsius, but the price of fluororubber membrane is relatively high. If the conveying medium is corrosive and the temperature is within 80 degrees Celsius, we recommend using polytetrafluoroethylene membrane. The rubber membrane lined with polytetrafluoroethylene can use a general nitrile rubber membrane. If the conveyed liquid is above 80 degrees Celsius and within 120 degrees Celsius, we recommend using polytetrafluoroethylene membrane for the membrane in contact with the liquid. The rubber membrane lined with fluororubber is the best choice.
6. The diaphragm made of Shandao rubber material has good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance. It is suitable for general acidic and alkaline liquids and cannot transport liquids containing solvents. It can replace EPDM rubber material. Shandao rubber diaphragm can withstand high temperatures up to 104 degrees Celsius, and we recommend using it within 80 degrees Celsius.
7. Polyether rubber film also has good wear resistance and is mainly suitable for oil liquids. It can replace nitrile rubber film and has a temperature resistance of around 100 degrees. It is recommended to use it within 80 degrees.
8. EPDM rubber film is wear-resistant and aging resistant, as well as resistant to ozone and common acidic and alkaline liquids. It has a high temperature resistance of 120 degrees Celsius and is recommended to be used within 100 degrees Celsius.
9. Ding Qing rubber film is a common type of rubber film, mainly suitable for conveying various non corrosive liquids, and can also be used for oil media, with a high temperature resistance of 100 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to use media within 80 degrees Celsius.
Based on the above information, the answer to how high a temperature a pneumatic diaphragm pump can withstand is within 120 degrees Celsius. The pump body must be made of metal material, and the outer layer of the diaphragm must be made of polytetrafluoroethylene material. The inner layer should be made of fluororubber material or ethylene propylene diene monomer material to withstand liquids within 120 degrees Celsius. It should be noted that long-term use of the pneumatic diaphragm pump diaphragm for liquids within 120 degrees Celsius may affect its lifespan.
