Detection of toxic substances dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate in the workplace using high-performance liquid chromatography
Date: 2021-09-17Read: 6
Dibutyl phthalate is a commonly used plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, nitrocellulose, polyvinyl acetate, alkyd resin, nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, chloroprene rubber, and nitrile rubber. Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate is an important universal plasticizer, mainly used in the processing of polyvinyl chloride resin. It can also be used in the processing of high polymers such as synthetic resins, acetic acid resins, ABS resins, and rubber. It can also be used in paint making, dyeing, dispersants, etc. Dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate can be absorbed in small amounts through intact skin. After a single contact with the skin and ocular mucosa, this product does not cause irritation, while repeated contact can result in severe irritation. Workers who produce plasticizers may suffer from polyneuropathy, spinal neuritis, and cerebral polyneuropathy. The method used for the detection of dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate in occupational health is as follows: the vapor state of dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate in the air are collected using silica gel, desorbed with methanol, and then separated by C18 liquid chromatography column, detected by UV detector, qualitatively determined by retention time, and quantitatively determined by peak area or peak height.
This article uses PerkinElmer's LC 300 high-performance liquid chromatography to establish a detection method for toxic substances dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate in workplace air. This method has good linearity, separation, repeatability, fast analysis speed, and meets daily detection needs.
