IoT soil moisture monitoring system: remote control of soil moisture, data linkage empowerment
Date: 2025-12-23Read: 9

With the development of smart agriculture, the demand for remote, intelligent, and interconnected soil moisture monitoring is becoming increasingly prominent. Traditional soil moisture monitoring equipment is mostly used for local monitoring, with lagging data transmission and difficulty in achieving comprehensive control, which hinders the large-scale development of smart agriculture. The Internet of Things soil moisture monitoring system has the core advantages of "Internet of Things linkage, remote control, and data sharing". Through Internet of Things technology, it realizes remote transmission, centralized control, and multi system linkage of soil moisture data, and is widely used in large-scale agricultural bases, smart agricultural industrial parks, and comprehensive irrigation control.

Supported by Internet of Things technology, remote global control is achieved. The Internet of Things soil moisture monitoring system relies on Internet of Things technology and transmits real-time data from monitoring stations distributed in different regions to a cloud management platform through the 485 Modbus RTU communication protocol, achieving centralized control of soil moisture throughout the entire area. Farmers or managers can remotely view the soil profile temperature, humidity, and conductivity data of all monitoring stations through terminals such as computers and mobile phones, and real-time grasp the differences in soil moisture in different areas and plots, without the need to visit the fields one by one, greatly improving the management efficiency of large-scale agricultural bases. The system supports real-time display of data, historical queries, curve analysis, and other functions, which can visually present the trend of soil moisture changes and provide data support for agricultural production decisions.
Multi dimensional precise monitoring, adapted to scale requirements. The core sensors installed in the system can synchronously monitor soil profile temperature, humidity, and conductivity. The standard configuration supports 5-layer monitoring, and below 10 layers, the monitoring layers can be customized according to different crop needs (monitoring depth less than 1M), which can accurately adapt to the planting needs of different crops in the large-scale base. By monitoring the soil dielectric constant and establishing a mathematical model, coupled with a self-designed spiral measuring electrode, the measurement error caused by air gaps can be effectively reduced; At the same time, it can measure the average humidity within a certain area, making up for the limitations of single point measurement and ensuring the accuracy and representativeness of soil moisture data in large-scale bases. The sensor housing is made of imported PC material, with a waterproof rating of IP67, corrosion resistance, high strength, and can adapt to different soil and climate environments in large-scale bases.
Low power stable operation, suitable for global deployment. In response to the fact that large-scale agricultural bases are mostly deployed in the wild, the system adopts a low-power design, with sensor power consumption as low as 0.26W. Paired with 8W solar panels and 5000mAh built-in lithium batteries, it can achieve long-term unmanned monitoring in the wild and eliminate dependence on mains electricity. Even on continuous rainy days, lithium batteries can ensure the continuous operation of equipment and ensure uninterrupted collection of soil moisture data. The equipment is easy to install and does not require professional technical personnel. It can be deployed according to the instructions and can quickly achieve the full-scale deployment of the base. At the same time, the system has good compatibility and can be linked with smart irrigation systems, integrated water and fertilizer systems, etc. It automatically triggers irrigation and fertilization actions based on soil moisture data, achieving full process automation of "monitoring decision-making execution".
Empowering with data linkage to enhance the efficiency of large-scale planting. The core value of the Internet of Things soil moisture monitoring system lies in the linkage and sharing of data. By integrating global soil moisture data through cloud platforms, it can provide scientific basis for planting planning, irrigation scheduling, and water and fertilizer management in large-scale agricultural bases. For example, in the smart agriculture industrial park, the system can dispatch irrigation equipment uniformly based on soil moisture data of different crops in different blocks, achieving differentiated and precise irrigation. This not only saves water resources and water and fertilizer costs, but also improves overall crop yield and quality. Attention should be paid to the use of the system. Multiple sensors should work at least 3 meters apart, and within a radius of 3 meters of the monitoring area, avoid electromagnetic cables and strong magnetic radiation. Disassembling sensors is prohibited to ensure stable operation of the equipment and accurate data. In the application of a large-scale vegetable planting industrial park, the system achieves a 40% water saving, a 25% reduction in water and fertilizer costs, and a 16% overall yield increase through monitoring soil moisture and irrigation linkage across the entire area, significantly improving the economic benefits of large-scale planting.
