The common installation methods for flow meters mainly include the following:
1、 Installation of flange connection
This is one of the common installation methods. By welding or bolted connecting flanges at both ends of the pipeline, aligning the flowmeter flange with the pipeline flange and tightening the bolts, the connection between the flowmeter and the pipeline is achieved. This method is suitable for pipelines of various diameters and pressure levels, with convenient installation, good sealing, and easy disassembly and maintenance. For situations that require frequent replacement or calibration of flow meters, flange connections are particularly suitable.
2、 Threaded connection installation
Generally used for small-diameter pipelines, it is usually machined with threads at the end of the pipeline, and then the flow meter with internal threads is directly screwed into the pipeline. Threaded connections have fast installation speed and simple operation, but due to their relatively weak sealing performance, they are suitable for situations with low pressure and temperature, and low sealing requirements. Moreover, threaded connections have limited pressure resistance and are generally not used for high-pressure pipelines.
3、 Clamp on installation
Clamp on flow meters do not require openings in the pipeline, but measure flow by clamping the pipeline. Usually, sensors are clamped on the outer wall of the pipeline to measure flow rate through principles such as electromagnetic induction and ultrasonic waves. This installation method is non-destructive to the pipeline, quick to install, and can be installed and maintained without stopping the pipeline operation. It is particularly suitable for the renovation of old pipelines or temporary flow measurement. However, the measurement accuracy of clamp type flow meters is relatively low and is greatly affected by pipeline material and wall thickness.
4、 Plug in installation
Insert the probe of the flowmeter into the interior of the pipeline for measurement, and ensure the sealing between the probe and the pipeline wall through a sealing device. The plug-in installation method can be installed without changing the original structure of the pipeline, and is suitable for measuring pipeline flow in special environments such as high temperature, high pressure, corrosion, etc. However, the probe of the plug-in flowmeter is susceptible to erosion and wear from the medium inside the pipeline, and requires regular maintenance and replacement.
5、 Sanitary installation
Mainly used for pipeline flow measurement in industries such as food and medicine, requiring installation methods that comply with hygiene standards. Usually, sanitary flanges, sanitary threads, or special sanitary clamps are used for connection to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the medium inside the pipeline. The sanitary installation method requires high sealing performance to prevent impurities from entering the pipeline system.
In summary, different installation methods for flow meters have their own advantages and disadvantages. In practical applications, it is necessary to choose the appropriate installation method based on specific working conditions, measurement requirements, pipeline characteristics, and other factors to ensure the normal operation and accurate measurement of flow meters.
