What preparations should be made before submitting a pressure gauge
Date: 2025-10-08Read: 11

Before putting the pressure gauge into use, in order to ensure its measurement accuracy, safety and reliability, the following preparations usually need to be made: 1. Check the pressure gauge itself

1. Appearance inspection • Check if the pressure gauge housing is intact, without cracks or deformations;

Whether the dial is clear and the markings are easy to read;

Whether the pointer is at zero position (when not pressurized, the pointer should point to zero or close to zero), and if there is a deviation, it needs to be zeroed or replaced;

Whether the joints and threads are intact, without any damage or leakage marks.

2. Accuracy and range confirmation • Confirm that the range of the selected pressure gauge is suitable for the pressure range of the measured medium. It is generally recommended that the measured pressure be within 1/3 to 2/3 of the pressure gauge range to ensure measurement accuracy and instrument life;

Check whether the accuracy level of the pressure gauge meets the process or safety requirements (such as 1.6 or 2.5 for general industrial gauges, and higher requirements may be required for important occasions);

Check whether the pressure gauge has a valid calibration certificate or calibration label to ensure that it is used within the calibration validity period. Pressure gauges that have not been calibrated beyond the expiration date shall not be put into use.

3. Type compatibility • Confirm that the type of pressure gauge (such as ordinary pressure gauge, shock resistant pressure gauge, stainless steel pressure gauge, diaphragm pressure gauge, etc.) matches the measured medium (such as gas, liquid, corrosive, high temperature, high pressure, etc.);

If the medium has characteristics such as corrosiveness, high viscosity, and easy crystallization, it may be necessary to use diaphragm pressure gauges or pressure gauges with isolation devices.

2、 Preparation before installation

1. Installation location selection: The installation location should be easy to observe and maintain, and should avoid adverse environments such as strong vibration, high temperature, and strong electromagnetic interference;

• It should be as close as possible to the pressure point of the measured medium to reduce measurement errors;

Install vertically or at the angle required by the manufacturer to avoid tilting and affecting the accuracy of readings.

2. Preparation of pipelines or interfaces • Check whether the pipelines, flanges, threaded interfaces, etc. connected to the pressure gauge are clean, unobstructed, and leak free;

If necessary, install buffer tubes (buffer bends) or condensation rings (especially when measuring steam or high-temperature media) to protect the pressure gauge and improve measurement accuracy;

If the medium is dirty or contains impurities, it is recommended to install a filter or protective device in front of the pressure gauge to prevent blockage or damage to the internal mechanism of the pressure gauge.

3. Preparation of seals and fasteners • Prepare suitable sealing gaskets (such as copper gaskets, polytetrafluoroethylene gaskets, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the medium and pressure resistance;

Check if the connecting threads match, and if necessary, use sealing tape (such as raw material tape) but should not enter the pressure transmission channel to avoid affecting the measurement.

3、 System and Security Preparation

1. System status confirmation • Ensure that the system connected to the pressure gauge is in a safe state. It is usually recommended to use the pressure gauge before the system is pressurized or in a low-pressure state;

If it is the first time or after system maintenance, it should be confirmed that there is no pressure residue inside the system, and if necessary, pressure relief and purging should be carried out.

2. Operating environment safety: Operators should have corresponding qualifications and understand the pressure range and hazards of the pressure system;

In high-pressure or hazardous medium environments, it is necessary to strictly follow the operating procedures and wear necessary protective equipment;

Ensure that there are no open flames or high temperature sources around, especially when measuring flammable and explosive media, to prevent static electricity or sparks from being generated.

3. Emergency plan • Clarify emergency response measures in case of abnormal situations such as leakage and overpressure;

Ensure that there are corresponding isolation and pressure relief devices on site, such as needle valves, globe valves, etc., to facilitate the cutting off or control of pressure sources when necessary.

4、 Application steps (brief)

1. Slowly open the valve in front of the pressure gauge (if any) to allow the medium to smoothly enter the pressure gauge;

2. Observe the changes in the pressure gauge pointer and confirm that there are no abnormal jumps, blockages, or leaks;

3. After confirming that the pressure gauge indicates normally, open the relevant valves;

4. Record initial readings, officially put into use, and regularly inspect, record, and maintain.

Summary:

Before putting the pressure gauge into use, sufficient preparation should be made from three aspects: inspection of the instrument itself (appearance, range, accuracy, calibration), preparation of installation conditions (position, interface, medium adaptation), and system safety (pressure state, environment, operational safety) to ensure that the pressure gauge can be safely, accurately, and reliably put into use.
