Analysis of the diverse composition and working principle of SMC cylinders in Japan
Selected Japanese SMC cylinder series:
Select the appropriate cylinder series based on application requirements, cylinder diameter, and stroke limitations.
Select the inner diameter of the SMC cylinder in Japan:
Select the appropriate cylinder diameter based on the weight of the load, operating speed, and working pressure. In this process, there are several key steps that need to be carefully grasped: ① Accurately estimate the weight of the load, including the weight of all movable parts such as workpieces, fixtures, and guide rods; ② Clearly define the air pressure used, that is, the pressure of compressed air required to supply the cylinder; ③ Determine the direction of the cylinder's movement to ensure that it can smoothly complete its work.
Determine cylinder stroke:
The stroke selection of Japanese SMC cylinders is closely related to specific application scenarios and the stroke ratio of the mechanism. During the calculation process, appropriate margin should be left for subsequent installation and debugging. Meanwhile, to ensure efficient delivery and reduce production costs, priority should be given to using standard strokes.
Select installation method:
The choice of installation method is influenced by both the installation location and the purpose of use. Usually, fixed cylinders are.
Select buffer form:
The choice of buffer device depends on the speed of the piston. Taking the Smart cylinder as an example, it is equipped with various buffering devices for customers to choose according to the actual load movement situation. If the load and speed are large, it is difficult to fully absorb the impact force solely through the buffering of the cylinder itself, so it is necessary to design a buffering circuit or use an external buffer.
Determine if the cylinder is magnetic:
When using electrical control in pneumatic systems, it is recommended to choose cylinders equipped with magnetic switches.
Select key accessories:
In pneumatic systems, although solenoid valves, throttle valves, joints, and pipes may seem insignificant, they have a profound impact on the overall performance of the system. Once the pneumatic selection problem is properly resolved, the matching work of other accessories can be easily completed according to the standard table.
Other considerations:
In adverse working environments, it is recommended to equip the protruding part of the piston rod with a dust cover to protect it from dust damage. If pollution-free operation is required, cylinders without oil supply or lubrication can be chosen.
The composition of Japanese SMC cylinders mainly includes cylinder body, piston, sealing ring, and magnetic ring (applicable to cylinders with sensors). Its working principle is to use pressurized air to push the piston to move, and by adjusting the intake direction, the direction of movement of the piston rod can be changed.
However, Japanese SMC cylinders may encounter some failure issues during operation, such as piston jamming causing inability to move, or cylinder weakness, seal ring wear, and air leakage.
The structure and working principle of a typical cylinder
Taking the widely used single piston rod double acting cylinder in pneumatic systems as an example, its typical structure is shown in the figure. This cylinder is composed of multiple components such as cylinder barrel, piston, piston rod, front end cover, rear end cover, and seals. The interior of the cylinder is divided into two chambers by the piston, namely the piston rod chamber (referred to as the rod chamber) and the rodless chamber (referred to as the rodless chamber).
During operation, if compressed air is input from the rodless chamber while there is exhaust from the rodless chamber, the pressure difference between the two chambers of the cylinder will push the piston to overcome the resistance load and extend the piston rod. On the contrary, if there is a rod chamber for intake and no rod chamber for exhaust, the piston rod will retract. By alternately performing this intake and exhaust operation, the piston can achieve reciprocating linear motion.
Structure and working principle of ordinary double acting cylinder
The structure of a regular double acting cylinder is similar to that of a single piston rod double acting cylinder, consisting of a cylinder barrel, piston, piston rod, front end cover, rear end cover, and sealing components. Differently, the piston of a regular double acting cylinder is equipped with sealing rings on both sides, allowing compressed air to be input from both sides, thereby achieving bidirectional movement of the piston. The advantage of this type of cylinder is that its force and speed characteristics are more balanced, which can meet more complex work requirements.
These are the main components of a regular double acting cylinder, which together form the complete structure of the cylinder. Through the synergistic effect of these components, the cylinder can achieve its bi-directional motion and balanced force and velocity characteristics.
Structure and Working Principle of Japanese SMC Cylinder with Mechanical Contact
The mechanical contact type Japanese SMC cylinder is ingeniously designed with a structure as shown in Figure 3. In the axial direction of the cylinder tube, a carefully designed groove runs through it, and the piston and slider move smoothly in the upper part of this groove. In order to ensure the sealing and dust resistance of the cylinder, polyurethane sealing tape and dust-proof stainless steel tape are cleverly fixed at both ends of the cylinder head. The piston frame passes through this channel, tightly connecting the piston and slider into a whole. In this way, the coordinated motion of the piston and slider can drive the actuator fixed on the slider, achieving efficient reciprocating motion.
The outstanding advantages of this Japanese SMC cylinder include: under the same stroke conditions, its installation space can be reduced by half compared to ordinary cylinders; No need to set up additional anti rotation mechanisms; Suitable for cylinder diameters ranging from 10 to 80mm, with a maximum stroke of up to 7m when the cylinder diameter is greater than or equal to 40mm. In addition, its speed can reach 0.1 to 0.5m/s for standard cylinders and 0.3 to 3.0m/s for high-speed cylinders. However, it also has certain shortcomings: the sealing performance is relatively weak and prone to leakage, so medium pressure valves must be selected when using three position valves; Meanwhile, due to the small load force, additional guiding mechanisms may need to be added to enhance the load capacity.
Detailed Component Analysis of Japanese SMC Cylinder with Mechanical Contact
In the mechanical contact type Japanese SMC cylinder, each component plays a crucial role. Among them, the throttle valve is used to regulate the gas flow rate, thereby controlling the movement speed of the cylinder; Buffer plunger can effectively reduce the impact force of the piston during movement and protect the cylinder from damage; The clever design of the sealing tape and dust-proof stainless steel tape ensures the sealing and dust-proof performance of the cylinder. In addition, the piston and slider are closely connected through the piston frame, working together to drive the actuator to achieve efficient reciprocating motion.
Structure and Working Principle of Magnetic Japanese SMC Cylinder
The magnetic rodless cylinder achieves synchronous movement between the piston and the external moving body of the cylinder body through magnetic force. Its structure is shown in Figure 4, and the key is a set of high-strength magnetic rings equipped on the piston. The magnetic lines of these magnetic rings will pass through the thin-walled cylinder and interact with another set of magnetic rings on the outside, generating a strong suction force due to their opposite magnetism. When the piston is pushed by air pressure inside the cylinder, this magnetic force comes into play, causing the piston to drive the magnetic ring sleeve outside the cylinder to move together. It is worth noting that the thrust of the cylinder piston needs to be balanced with the suction of the magnetic ring.
