The difference between single beam and double beam
Date: 2021-04-09Read: 12

Shanghai Analytical Instrument ProductionultravioletVisible spectrophotometerThe optical system, high-performance holographic grating, and receiver of the instrument ensure excellent performance

UV visible spectrophotometerIt has the characteristics of high stability, low signal-to-noise ratio, ultra-low stray light, high photometric accuracy, and small baseline drift, and can perform quantitative measurements (standard curve measurement, which can directly read the concentration of substances); Dynamics testing (measuring changes in substance concentration over time)ODChanges in values); Spectral scanning (can perform full band scanning of a substance, analyze its characteristic wavelengths, and determine experimental errors).

So, a single beam UV visible spectrophotometer andDual beam UV visible spectrophotometerWhat is the difference?

1、Single beam spectrophotometerIt is measured by a beam of light passing through a monochromator, alternately passing through a reference solution and a sample solution for light intensity measurement. The characteristics of this spectrophotometer are: simple structure, cheap price, mainly suitable for quantitative analysis. The disadvantage is that the measurement results are greatly affected by fluctuations in the power supply, which can easily cause significant errors in the quantitative results. In addition, this instrument is difficult to operate and not suitable for qualitative analysis.

2、Dual beam UV visible spectrophotometerA spectrophotometer that analyzes a sample by passing two beams of light, one through the sample and the other through a reference solution. This method can overcome the instability of the light source, interference from certain impurities, and other factors, and can also detect changes in the sample over time. Therefore, the dual beam device can stably perform measurements even if the light source intensity and detector sensitivity may vary.
