Capacitive level gaugeIt is an industrial instrument that continuously measures the height of liquid, solid, or slurry in a container based on the principle of capacitive induction. It is widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemical, power, food, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, and environmental protection. The core principle is to utilize the difference in dielectric constant between the measured medium and air (or container wall). When the level changes, the capacitance formed between the sensor electrode and the container wall (or reference electrode) changes accordingly. This capacitance value is detected by a high-precision circuit and converted into a corresponding level signal output.
Capacitive level gauges have a simple structure and no mechanical moving parts. They typically consist of probes (rod, cable, or coaxial), transmitters, and mounting flanges. The probe can be directly inserted into the container and is suitable for atmospheric pressure, high pressure, high temperature, corrosive or dusty environments. For different media, probes made of materials such as PTFE, 316L stainless steel, and Hastelloy can be selected, and they support explosion-proof (Ex d/Ex ia) and sanitary (such as 3A, EHEDG) designs to meet the requirements of harsh working conditions. For conductive media, an insulation layer (such as PTFE coating) needs to be added to the surface of the probe to form an effective electric field; For non-conductive media, measurement relies on the difference between their own dielectric constant and air.
Capacitive level gaugeThe main characteristics are:
1、 Unique measurement principle and high accuracy
Principle of capacitance change
It is a capacitor composed of sensors and the measured medium, whose capacitance value is linearly related to the height of the medium. When the level changes, the capacitance value changes accordingly, and the height of the level can be accurately calculated by detecting the capacitance change.
Advantages: The measurement principle is direct and not affected by interference such as medium flow rate and pressure fluctuations. The measurement accuracy can reach ± 0.5% FS (full range) or even higher, meeting high-precision requirements.
Linear output characteristics
The capacitance value is linearly related to the height of the object, and the output signal (such as 4-20mA, RS485, etc.) corresponds one-to-one with the height of the object, which is convenient for subsequent processing and display.
Advantages: No need for complex calibration or compensation algorithms, simplified system design, and improved reliability.
2、 Strong adaptability, capable of measuring multiple media
Wide range of media types
Liquid measurement: Suitable for various liquids such as water, oil, acid, alkali, solvents, etc., including corrosive, high-temperature, and high-pressure media.
Solid state measurement: It can measure powders, particles, block materials (such as coal, ore, plastic particles, etc.), and even viscous or easily clumping media.
Interface measurement: capable of distinguishing the layering positions of two different media (such as oil-water interface) with high accuracy.
Advantages: By selecting sensors made of different materials (such as stainless steel, polytetrafluoroethylene, ceramics, etc.), they can adapt to various complex working conditions.
Strong environmental adaptability
Wide temperature range: The sensor can operate in extreme temperature environments ranging from -200 ℃ to+800 ℃ (with the option of a high-temperature probe).
Wide pressure range: suitable for high-pressure scenarios ranging from vacuum to tens of megapascals.
Explosion proof design: Optional intrinsic safety or explosion-proof design to meet the safety requirements of flammable and explosive places.
Advantage: No need for additional cooling or heating devices, reducing system complexity and cost.
3、 Simple structure, easy installation and maintenance
Non contact measurement (optional)
Some models adopt non-contact design, and the sensor does not need to directly contact the medium to avoid pollution and wear.
Advantages: Suitable for scenarios with high hygiene requirements (such as the food and pharmaceutical industries), reducing cleaning and maintenance workload.
Flexible installation method
Support multiple installation methods such as top mounted, side mounted, and bottom mounted to adapt to different container structures.
Advantages: No need to modify the container, easy installation, saving time and cost.
Low maintenance cost
Sensors have no mechanical moving parts, low failure rate, and long service life (usually exceeding 10 years).
Advantages: Reduce downtime and maintenance costs, and lower total lifecycle costs.
4、 Rich functionality and high level of intelligence
Multi parameter measurement
Some models can simultaneously measure parameters such as level, temperature, pressure, etc., achieving multifunctional integration.
Advantages: Simplify system configuration and improve data utilization.
Intelligent algorithm support
Built in anti-interference algorithms (such as filtering, temperature compensation, etc.) to improve measurement stability.
Advantage: High precision measurement can still be maintained under complex working conditions.
Diverse communication interfaces
Supports communication protocols such as 4-20mA, HART, RS485, Modbus, Profibus, etc., and can be seamlessly integrated with control systems such as DCS and PLC.
Advantages: Achieve remote monitoring and automated control, improve production efficiency.
Self diagnostic function
Some models have fault self diagnosis function, which can monitor sensor status in real time and alarm.
Advantage: Identify potential issues in advance to avoid unexpected downtime.
5、 Safe and reliable, in line with industry standards
Explosion-proof certification
Approved by international explosion-proof certifications such as ATEX, IECEx, CSA, etc., suitable for hazardous areas.
Advantage: Ensure safe operation of equipment in flammable and explosive environments.
Health certification
Compliant with FDA, 3A, EHEDG and other hygiene standards, suitable for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
Advantages: Avoiding medium pollution and ensuring product quality.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
Through certifications such as CE and FCC, it has strong resistance to electromagnetic interference.
Advantages: Stable operation in strong electromagnetic environments, reducing false alarms.
