Overview

Realize non-contact and maintenance free measurement through radar measurement technology. Since the transmission of microwave signals does not require a medium, it is not affected by steam, pressure, dust, or temperature during the process. Siemens offers multiple models to suit your application.

SITRANS Probe LR is a two-wire loop powered 6 GHz radar transmitter used for monitoring liquids in storage tanks, slurries, or process vessels, with a range of up to 20 meters.

SITRANS LR200 is a 2-wire, 6 GHz pulse radar level transmitter that can be used for continuous monitoring of liquids and slurries in process vessels under high temperature, high pressure, turbulence, and agitation conditions, with a range of up to 20 meters.

SITRANS LR250 is a 2-wire, 25 GHz pulse radar level transmitter that can be used for continuous monitoring of liquids and slurries in storage tanks or process vessels under high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive material conditions, with a range of up to 20 meters. It is ideal for small containers or low dielectric constant media.

SITRANS LR260 is a 2-wire, 25 GHz pulse level radar transmitter used for continuous monitoring of solids and liquids up to 30 meters (98.4 feet) in height; Suitable for level measurement with fast response or intrinsic safety requirements.

SITRANS LR460 is a 4-wire 24 GHz FMCW, radar level transmitter that provides * signal-to-noise ratio and integrates more advanced signal processing technology. It can be used for continuous monitoring of various solids up to 100 meters. It is suitable for measurement in environments with high dust and temperature.

SITRANS LR560 is a 2-wire, 78 GHz FMCW radar level transmitter that can be used for continuous monitoring of solids and liquids, with a range of up to 100 meters. It is easy to install, plug and play, and almost maintenance free.

Auto False Echo Suppression

The SITRANS LR instrument adopts the obtained process intelligent signal processing technology, which has many advantages. Advanced algorithms that incorporate deep knowledge and experience from acoustic intelligence into software are used to provide intelligent echo processing processes. Obtain measurement results with high repeatability, speed, and reliability.

One feature of the SITRANS radar instrument is the automatic suppression of false echoes, and the echo processing technology can automatically detect and suppress false echoes from obstacles inside the container. This function can be achieved through local interface or SIMATIC PDM communication via HART or PROFIBUS PA with only two parameters.

working principle

Radar measurement technology can measure the time difference from the transmitted signal to the returned signal. Thus, the measurable distance and level can be calculated.

Unlike ultrasonic measurement technology, radar technology does not require a carrier medium and can transmit at the speed of light (300000 m/s). The working range of most industrial radar equipment is 6-26 GHz.

Siemens provides pulse radar transmitters (SITRANS Probe LR, SITRANS LR200, SITRANS LR250, SITRANS LR260) and FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar transmitters (SITRANS LR460, SITRANS LR560).

Pulse radar emits microwaves from an antenna at a fixed frequency, which reflects the interface between two materials with different dielectric constants (the atmosphere and medium being monitored). The echo is detected by a receiver, and the transmission time is used to calculate the level.

The reflected radar waves are digitally converted to generate echo patterns. By analyzing the shape of the echo, the distance between the medium surface and the instrument reference point can be determined.

FMCW (Continuous Frequency Modulation Wave) radar instruments can emit microwaves to the surface of media. And continuously adjust the frequency. At the same time, the receiver continuously receives, and the frequency difference between the transmitter and receiver is proportional to the distance to the material.
