Radar flowmeterIt is a high-precision flow measurement device based on the principle of interaction between radar waves and fluids. It adopts a non-contact measurement method and accurately calculates flow velocity and flow rate by emitting radar waves of a specific frequency to the surface of the fluid and receiving reflected signals. Its core advantage lies in breaking through the environmental limitations of traditional contact flow meters, especially suitable for complex water flow conditions.
It mainly relies on the Doppler effect and the principle of radar ranging. By emitting microwave signals (commonly in the 24GHz or 60GHz frequency band), the signals are reflected upon contact with water flow. The receiver captures the reflected waves and analyzes the frequency shift (Doppler shift), combined with the radar wave propagation time to calculate the water level. Finally, the flow rate is obtained through the velocity area method. This technology can synchronously measure water level, flow velocity, instantaneous flow rate, and cumulative flow rate, with measurement accuracy of ± 0.01m/s (flow velocity) and ± 3mm (water level), and resolution of up to 0.001m/s (flow velocity) and 1mm (water level).
Radar flowmeterThe main maintenance methods are:
1、 Regular cleaning
Clean the surface of the antenna:
Frequency: It is recommended to check and clean at least once a month. If there is a lot of dust, oil, water vapor, and insects in the installation environment, the cleaning frequency should be increased.
Method: Gently wipe the surface of the radar antenna with a soft and clean cloth (such as a lens cloth). If there are stubborn stains, you can wet the cloth with water or a mild neutral cleaner and wipe it. Do not use strong acids, alkalis, or organic solvents (such as acetone, alcohol, etc.) to avoid damaging the antenna coating or housing.
Attention: When cleaning, be sure to turn off the power and avoid operating with electricity.
Clean the measurement area:
Check whether there are cobwebs, bird nests, leaves, foam, floating objects and other obstructions on the radar beam path, and remove them in time to avoid interfering with the signal.
Ensure that the measured liquid level is free of a lot of foam, oil or steam, which will affect the reflection of radar waves.
2、 Check installation status
Fixed firmness:
Regularly check whether the instrument installation bracket and fixing bolts are loose or corroded, ensuring that the instrument remains stable in environments such as wind and vibration, and avoiding measurement angle deviation.
Installation angle and position:
Confirm whether the radar probe is perpendicular to the liquid surface (or installed at the required angle according to the instructions) to avoid measurement errors caused by tilting.
Check if the installation position still meets the requirements (such as the distance from the canal wall, inlet, and outlet, avoiding vortex zones).
3、 Electrical and Connection Inspection
Cable and wiring:
Check if the power and signal wires are aging, damaged, or loose.
Ensure that the wiring terminals are securely fastened and the waterproof joints are well sealed to prevent moisture from entering and causing short circuits or corrosion.
Grounding inspection:
Ensure good grounding of instruments, especially in areas with frequent thunderstorms. Good grounding can effectively prevent lightning strikes and electromagnetic interference.
4、 Function and Performance Inspection
Power on inspection:
Regularly power on and observe if the instrument display is normal and if there are any alarm messages.
Check whether the output signals (such as 4-20mA, RS485, etc.) are stable and correct.
Data comparison:
When conditions permit, standard container method, flowmeter method or portable ultrasonic flowmeter can be used for on-site comparison to verify the measurement accuracy of radar flowmeter. If the deviation exceeds the allowable range, it is necessary to investigate the cause (such as parameter settings, installation issues) or perform calibration.
5、 Environmental protection
Waterproof and moisture-proof:
Ensure that the protection level (IP level) of the instrument casing meets the on-site requirements, regularly check whether the sealing ring is aging or damaged, and replace it in a timely manner.
Lightning protection:
When installing in open areas or high places, lightning rods and surge protectors should be equipped to protect the instruments from lightning damage.
Antifreeze (cold regions):
In winter, be careful to prevent the antenna from freezing or accumulating snow, as ice can seriously affect measurements. Consider installing an antifreeze cover or choosing a model with heating function.
6、 Software and parameter management
Regularly backup the configuration parameters of the instrument.
If there is a software upgrade, follow the manufacturer's instructions to obtain better performance or fix known issues.
7、 Record and maintain archives
Establish maintenance records, detailing the time, content, and personnel involved in each cleaning, inspection, calibration, and troubleshooting process for easy traceability and management.
