Introduction and Testing Method of Contact Point Resistance

Contact point resistance, abbreviated as contact resistance, refers to the resistance generated at the contact interface when two conductive objects (such as metal surfaces, wires, plugs and sockets, gold fingers and connectors, etc.) are in physical contact and allow current to pass through. This type of resistance is caused by factors such as uneven contact surfaces, the presence of oxide layers, pollutants or other impurities, and insufficient contact pressure.

Under normal circumstances, it is necessary to use the HVR371S handheld circuit resistance tester for testing.

In an ideal situation, twoSmooth, pure, and tightly contacting metal surfaces should have no resistance between them, but in practical situations, such an ideal state is almost impossible to achieve. Therefore, contact resistance always exists and its magnitude depends on various factors, including the properties of the contact material, the condition of the contact surface, contact pressure, ambient temperature and humidity, etc.

The size of the contact resistance has a significant impact on the performance of the circuit. If the contact resistance is too high, it can cause the current to generate heat at the contact point, increase energy loss, and may even cause overheating, melting, or burning of the contact point. In addition, contact resistance may also affect the transmission quality of signals, leading to signal attenuation or distortion.

In order to reduce contact resistance, a series of measures are usually taken, such as using materials with good conductivity, improving the machining accuracy and cleanliness of the contact surface, increasing contact pressure, and using gold plating or other anti oxidation treatments. These measures can effectively reduce contact resistance, improve circuit performance and reliability.

Overall, contact resistance is an inevitable parameter in circuits, and its magnitude has a significant impact on the performance and stability of the circuit. Therefore, in the process of circuit design and maintenance, it is necessary to fully consider the influence of contact resistance and take corresponding measures to reduce its value.
