Commemoration of May 12th

The National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day falls on May 12th every year. The background of the establishment of National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day is the devastating earthquake that occurred on May 12, 2008 in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province. The Wenchuan earthquake caused significant casualties and property damage, so this day is worth remembering.

Approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China, National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day has been established and implemented since May 12, 2009, with different themes for each year.

May 12, 2023, is the 15th National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day in China, with the theme of "Preventing Disaster Risks and Escorting High Quality Development".
