Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation (National Standards Commission) approved the release of the mandatory national standard "Hygienic Standards for Lighting and Illumination in Primary and Secondary School Classrooms" (GB 7793-2025). This standard is revised by the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention and will be officially implemented from November 1, 2026.
The "Hygiene Standards for Classroom Lighting and Illumination in Primary and Secondary Schools" set hygiene requirements for classroom lighting and illumination. This revision is mainly reflected in three aspects. One is more comprehensive, adding multiple key indicator requirements, including lighting uniformity, winter solstice full window sunshine time, glass color transmittance index and visible light transmittance ratio, writing board lighting fixture control device, retinal blue light hazard limit, fluctuation depth, flicker index, and flicker effect visibility. Secondly, it is more scientific by updating the scope of application of the standards, and revising and improving the lighting direction, lighting coefficient, window to floor area ratio, glare control, reflectivity of various surfaces in the classroom, lighting color temperature and color rendering index, lighting power density, and lighting measurement methods. The third is to optimize by removing the requirements for using tricolor fluorescent lamps, energy-saving inductors, or electronic ballasts, leaving room for technological progress and application flexibility.
The release and implementation of this standard is of great significance for implementing the requirements of documents such as the "Regulations on School Health Work" and the "Implementation Plan for Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Myopia in Children and Adolescents", guiding the improvement of lighting environment in primary and secondary school classrooms, and protecting the visual health of children and adolescents.
