System Composition

The online monitoring system for partial discharge of transformers consists of sensors, detection/signal processing units, partial discharge IEDs, and system servers. Multiple partial discharge IEDs can form a distributed monitoring system and simultaneously monitor multiple devices online. A transformer partial discharge online monitoring system can be configured with one system server and up to 256 partial discharge IEDs, each of which can support 4 sensor units, suitable for online monitoring of transformer equipment in substations of different scales.

Built in UHF sensor: installed on power transformers to detect ultra-high frequency electromagnetic wave signals generated by partial discharge inside the power transformer.

For transformers that are already in operation, it is recommended to use an oil valve type UHF sensor. The oil valve type UHF sensor is installed at the oil discharge valve on the transformer tank wall, which does not affect the normal operation of the transformer and can be installed with electricity.

For transformers in newly built substations, it is recommended to use built-in UHF sensors. The built-in UHF sensors should be installed on the inner wall of the transformer body, and holes for installing sensors should be reserved in the transformer body;

Detection/signal processing unit: It implements functions such as filtering, detection, and amplification of signals collected by sensors, filters out useless high-frequency signals, detects and amplifies effective signals, and transmits them to the partial discharge monitoring IED device.

Partial discharge IED: composed of modules such as high-speed data acquisition unit, FPGA high-speed data processing unit, communication and control unit, etc., it collects and processes the detected signals, and transmits the monitoring results to the system server through optical fiber. One partial discharge IED can simultaneously process the collected data from four sensors;

System server: By statistical analysis of historical data, combined with the changing trend of internal partial discharge of the device, and based on the characteristics of the signal, it can compare with the fingerprint database to determine the possible types and approximate locations of defects.

Monitoring significance

Large power transformers are the core equipment of power systems, as well as devices with complex structures and high risk of faults. The quality of its operation directly affects the safe and reliable operation of the power grid. For transient and sudden faults of transformers, partial discharge monitoring has faster and more sensitive response characteristics than oil and gas monitoring. Compared with oil and gas monitoring, partial discharge monitoring can provide faster and more timely warnings for insulation abnormalities and discharge faults in transformers, providing necessary guidance data for the normal operation of transformers and improving the reliability and safety of transformer operation.

The transformer partial discharge online monitoring system is designed specifically for monitoring the insulation status of transformer equipment. It uses ultra-high frequency sensor technology to detect partial discharge signals inside the transformer in real time. Through data analysis software and intelligent diagnostic systems in the background, the partial discharge signals are analyzed and processed to evaluate the insulation status of the transformer, determine the type and approximate location of defects, and provide maintenance recommendations.
