1 IRB 120- Introduction

The innovative design of IRB 120 supports multiple installation methods without angle restrictions, and its advantages are particularly evident in limited space conditions. This product is widely used in fields such as electronics, food and beverage, machinery, solar energy, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and research, providing a cost-effective solution for the processing and assembly of small workpieces.

The IRC5 compact control cabinet, which can be used in conjunction with the IRB 120, has also been launched simultaneously. The modified "slimming" IRC5 significantly saves space and inherits many advantages of the IRC5 family, such as outstanding motion control capabilities, user-friendly teaching pendant programming software, and powerful communication capabilities.






2 IRB 120- Performance Features

ABB has launched the smallest multi-purpose industrial robot to date - the compact, agile, and lightweight six axis IRB 120, weighing only 25kg, with a load capacity of 3kg (4kg for the vertical arm), and a working range of 580mm.

With a significant reduction in size, the IRB 120 inherits all the functions and technologies of this series of robots, creating favorable conditions for reducing the footprint of robot workstations. The compact model combined with lightweight design has achieved excellent economy and reliability of IRB 120, with the advantages of low investment and high output.

The maximum working stroke of IRB 120 is 411mm, and the picking distance below the base is 112mm. It is widely used in fields such as electronics, food and beverage, machinery, solar energy, pharmaceuticals, medical care, and research.

To reduce the space occupied by robots, IRB 120 can be installed at any angle inside the workstation, above mechanical equipment, or near other robots on the production line. The first axis of the robot has a very small turning radius, which helps to shorten the distance between it and other devices.






3 IRB 120- Technical Core

At the same time as the launch of IRB 120, the popular IRC5 controller was also accompanied by a new compact version. The advanced dynamic modeling technology of the IRC5 compact controller, with QuickMove and TrueMove motion control software as its core, endows the IRB 120 robot with first-class motion control performance and path accuracy, which helps to further improve production efficiency. The latest compact controller ensures that IRB 120 achieves predictable and excellent performance, and path accuracy is not affected by operating speed at all.

As a member of the market leading IRC5 family, the IRC5 compact controller inherits many highlights of this product series, such as outstanding path motion control capabilities, user-friendly FlexPendant programming software, flexible RAPID language, powerful communication capabilities, and now adds the advantage of extremely small footprint. In the next phase until 2010, the IRC5 compact controller will be gradually introduced to support other ABB robot models such as IRB 140 and IRB 360 Flexpicker.

In addition to significantly saving production space, the IRC5 compact controller simplifies debugging steps by setting up single-phase power input, external signal connectors (all signals), and a built-in expandable 16 channel I/O system. The system also supports RobotStudio offline programming and remote services for online monitoring of status, helping manufacturers and integrators optimize workstation design and avoid costly equipment downtime or production delays.
