Simply insert the Waterra eDNA filter into your suction pump tube and place the inlet end of the filter into the water body to be sampled. The running volume of water captures particulate matter, including eDNA, through an online disposable filter.
Waterra offers battery driven peristaltic pumps designed specifically for on-site use. We suggest connecting the peristaltic tube to another section of LDPE or HDPE pipe, which has a filter installed at its end. By connecting a filter at the intake end, the length of the PE tube and the peristaltic tube itself will not come into contact with the captured eDNA. This reduces the need to replace pipes for each sample.
If this is impractical, the filter can be inserted between the peristaltic tube and a disposable tube, and the tube should be replaced after each sampling. Waterra provides a complete pump, pipeline, and eDNA filter system for this type of sampling.

Although freezing and drying are another preservation method, buffer solutions are usually added to preserve eDNA. Tightly install on the buffer end cap on the inlet side. Fill the filter with the required buffer to preserve DNA, and install a second buffer cap to capture the buffer in the filter. Waterra stopper retains buffer and eDNA for further processing. End plugs are provided in each sealed eDNA filter bag.
