The "grade" and "equal" of measuring blocks are two different forms of dividing their accuracy from the perspectives of batch manufacturing and individual verification.

When used according to the "grade", the nominal size marked on the gauge block is used as the working size, which includes its manufacturing error.

When using "wait", the actual size after calibration must be used as the working size, which does not include manufacturing errors but includes measurement errors during calibration.

For the same measuring block, the measurement error during calibration is much smaller than the manufacturing error.

When the measuring block is used as "equal", its accuracy is higher than when used as "grade", and it can extend its service life while maintaining the original accuracy of the measuring block.

Selection of measuring blocks

According to the Chinese Measurement Block Verification Regulations JJG146-2003, it can be seen that the length deviation of K, 0, 1, 2, and 3 level measurement blocks is equivalent to the measurement uncertainty of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 level measurement blocks, respectively. Therefore, in the use of measurement blocks, certain "equal" measurement blocks can be replaced with corresponding "grade" measurement blocks. However, this substitution is not economical because the flatness and compatibility requirements of the measurement surface of level 3 measurement blocks are higher than those of level 5 measurement blocks. Therefore, it is only necessary to use the nominal size of the measurement block when it cannot be corrected.
On the other hand, blocks of equal magnitude 3 cannot replace blocks of equal magnitude 1, and blocks of equal magnitude 3, 4, and 5 cannot respectively replace blocks of equal magnitude 1, 2, and 3. This is because blocks of equal magnitude 2, 3, 4, and 5 have lower flatness and conformity of their measuring surfaces compared to blocks of equal magnitude 0, 1, 2, and 3.
From the flatness and compatibility of the measuring block, it can be seen that: 1 grade is equivalent to K grade; Level 2 and Level 0; Grade 3 is similar to Grade 1, Grade 4 is similar to Grade 2, and Grade 5 is similar to Grade 3, so a certain grade of gauge block can only be calibrated from a certain grade of gauge block. For example, measuring blocks with a factory grade of 0 can only be calibrated as 2nd grade or below, measuring blocks with a factory grade of 1 can only be calibrated as 3rd grade or below, and measuring blocks with a factory grade of 2 can only be calibrated as 4th grade or below
