The purpose of cyclic corrosion testing is to reproduce the types of corrosion in outdoor corrosive environments. The test exposes the sample to a series of cyclic environments under different conditions.Simple exposure cycles, such as the Prohesion test, involve exposing the sample to a cycle consisting of salt spray and drying conditions. More complex automotive testing methods require not only salt spray and dry cycles, but also wet and static cycles. Initially, these testing cycles were completed manually, with laboratory operators moving the samples from the salt spray box to the wet test box, and then to a drying or static device.
