Few Mode Fiber EDFA


This type of cladding pumped low mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier was developed in the MODE-GAP project supported by the European Union. The few mode EDFA covers the C-band and provides a configuration of 6 modes (LP01, LP11a, LP11b, LP21a, LP21b, LP02). In the entire mode, low noise figure and high gain can be achieved. The differential modal gain is low and flat across the entire optical C-band. The side pump scheme is suitable for implementing an all fiber integrated SDM amplifier.
