1HSSB-I Cable Identification DeviceIntroduction to Working Principle
In order to reliably and accurately identify cables, a special signal needs to be added to the identified cable, which needs to be received by the receiver. By using this characteristic, the cable to be found can be identified.
The instrument works according to the following principle:
The generator feeds periodic unipolar voltage pulses into the cable to be identified, which needs to be grounded remotely to ensure sufficient current flows through the cable. The system should be designed so that the return current does not come back from the same cable. To achieve this, the direction of the pulse current fed into the cable can be used as a clear identification standard, and the current flowing out only passes through this cable. All other adjacent cables are the return current, but their polarities are opposite. In addition to the actual difference in current direction, current amplitude is also a recognition feature. The outgoing current only passes through one cable, while the return current can pass through several cables, which means that the outgoing current is greater than the return current flowing through other cables.
The task of the receiver is to detect the direction and magnitude of the current flowing through the cable. To achieve this goal, a current clamp is used as a sensor with an amplifier connected in series in the circuit. The clamp holds the tested cable, and the magnetic field generated by the current flowing through the cable induces a voltage in the clamp coil. The polarity of the voltage is determined by the direction of the current and the direction of the clamp coil. In order to obtain voltage polarity with clear current direction, all cables in a bundle are tested with the same correct winding direction, which is why the calipers are marked with arrows. The direction of the arrow on the caliper should point towards the far end of the cable, and the voltage induced in the caliper coil is displayed in the meter head. If the caliper is connected in the above way, the direction of the pointer swing can display the direction of the current, that is, only the cable with the current flowing out has a pointer that is biased to the right, which is the cable to be found. All other cables only flow return current, with the pointer biased to the left or no pulsating current, and the pointer does not deflect. The amplifier regulator on the receiver can adjust the signal strength.
