1、 Product Introduction:
This method uses a road asphalt standard viscometer to measure the viscosity of liquid petroleum asphalt, coal tar pitch, emulsified asphalt and other materials in their flow state,The viscosity measured by this method should indicate the temperature and pore size.
2、 Technical parameters:
1. Working power supply: AC220V ± 10%; 50Hz。
2. Circular water tank: inner diameter 160mm, depth 116mm.
3. Sample tube: A set of 4, with flow hole sizes of 10mm ± 0.025mm, 5mm ± 0.025mm, 4mm ± 0.025mm, and 3mm ± 0.025mm respectively.
4. Ball plug specification: A: Ball diameter 12.7mm ± 0.05mm; Mark height 92mm ± 0.25mm
B: Ball diameter 6.35mm ± 0.05mm; marking height 90.3mm ± 0.25mm.
5. Temperature control range: room temperature~90 ℃.
6. Temperature control accuracy: ± 0.1 ℃.
7. Timing resolution value: 0.1s, maximum timing value 999.9s.
8. Heating form: PTC tubular electric heating tube heating, circulating pump circulating bath liquid to control the temperature of the water tank, heating power 750W.
9. Environmental temperature: -10 ℃~35 ℃.
10. Relative humidity: ≤ 85%.
11. Dimensions: 420mm x 340mm x 570mm (length x width x height).
12. Power consumption of the whole machine: not exceeding 800W.
III. Main Structure and Characteristics
This instrument has a compact structure, beautiful appearance, and is controlled by dual microcomputers. It is easy to operate and has high measurement accuracy.
(1) Main structure
The appearance of the instrument is shown in Figure 1.

1. Sensor socket: Insert temperature sensor.
2. Timing button: A button that controls the start and end of the timing during viscosity testing.
3. Sensor probe: a temperature sensor placed in a constant temperature water bath to detect bath temperature.
4. Sink cover: The cover of a thermostatic sink.
5. Cover for sample tube: When the sample tube is filled with the sample and reaches the testing temperature, cover this cover.
6. Water: Circulating bath solution through an external U-shaped tube during operation; Use this water to release water when not working.
7. Measuring cylinder: During viscosity testing, collect the incoming sample and measure its flow rate.
8. Round base: placed on the base of a measuring cylinder.
4、 Usage and steps
(1) Preparation before use
1. Before using this instrument, carefully read the user manual.
2. Carefully read the industry standard T0621 "Asphalt Standard Viscosity Test" of the People's Republic of China, understand and familiarize yourself with the preparation work, test steps, and test requirements outlined in the standard.
3. According to the requirements specified in T0621 standard, prepare various testing instruments, materials, etc. for the experiment.
4. Check the working status of this instrument, which should comply with the working environment and conditions specified in this manual.
5. Check the casing of this instrument, which must be in a good grounding state, and the external power cord must have a good grounding terminal.
(2) Installation and use of instruments
1. Water injection
Open the circular sink cover, slowly add water to the sink until the water level is about 20mm away from the upper edge of the sink, and cover the circular sink cover.
2. Adjust the temperature controller
Insert the temperature control probe plug and place the probe into the screw hole of the sink cover. According to the temperature requirements of the experiment, set the temperature controller to the desired degree (see XMT Temperature Controller User Manual for details).
3. Select the sample tube with the required flow hole diameter (see the steel seal on the top of the sample tube for the diameter) and place it in the circular well of the water tank. Block the flow hole with the prescribed plug, and place the evaporating dish under the flow hole to prepare for receiving the sample that accidentally flows out. Except for 10mm flow holes that use 12.7mm diameter ball plugs, all other flow holes use 6.35mm diameter ball plugs.
4. When the water bath in the annular water tank reaches the test temperature, heat the sample to a temperature 2 ℃~3 ℃ higher than the test temperature and inject it into the sample tube. The quantity is based on the mark on the rod when the liquid level reaches the vertical position of the ball stopper rod. And cover the sample tube lid.
5. The sample should be kept at the test temperature in the water tank for about 30 minutes, and the cover of the sample tube should be opened (be careful not to lift the ball plug to prevent the sample from flowing out). Gently stir the sample with a thermometer, measure the temperature of the sample to be within ± 0.1 ℃ of the test temperature, adjust the liquid level to the mark on the ball stopper rod, and continue to hold for 1-3 minutes.
6. Remove the evaporating dish under the flow hole and place the graduated cylinder on the circular base. 25ml of soapy water or mineral oil can be pre injected into the graduated cylinder for washing and accurate reading.
7. Lift the ball stopper and hang it on the edge of the sample tube with the marker (it can also be placed elsewhere). When the sample flows into the graduated cylinder to reach 25ml (graduated cylinder scale 50ml), press the timer button. At this time, the time display in the timer display window will change (originally 000.0). When the sample flows out of 75ml (graduated cylinder scale 100ml), press the button again to display the time reading value.
8. Record the time it takes for 50ml of the sample to flow out, measured in seconds (S), which is the viscosity of the sample.
9. The same sample shall be tested in parallel at least twice. When the difference between the two measurements is not greater than 4% of the average value, the integer of the average value shall be taken as the test result.
10. Before timing, you can turn on the lighting inside the instrument to observe the liquid level position of the measuring cylinder.
5、 Test steps for standard viscosity meter of road asphalt:
1. Heat the sample to a temperature 2 ℃ -3 ℃ higher than the test temperature (if the test temperature is lower than room temperature, the sample must be cooled to a temperature 2 ℃ -3 ℃ lower than the test temperature) and inject it into the Shengshi sample tube. The quantity is based on the mark on the rod when the liquid level reaches the vertical position of the ball plug rod.
2. The sample should be kept at the test temperature in the water tank for at least 30 minutes. When the temperature of the sample is measured to be within ± 0.1 ℃ of the test temperature, adjust the liquid level of the sample to the mark on the ball stopper rod, and continue to maintain the temperature for 1-3 minutes.
3. Remove the evaporating dish under the flow hole and place the receiving bottle or measuring cylinder with its center facing the flow hole. The receiving bottle or measuring cylinder can be pre filled with 25mL of soapy water or mineral oil for washing and accurate reading.
4. Lift the ball stopper and hang it on the edge of the sample tube with a marker. When the sample flows into the receiving bottle or measuring cylinder and reaches 25mL (with a scale of 50mL), press the stopwatch. When the sample flows out of 75mL (with a scale of 100mL), press the stop watch.
5. Record the time it takes for 50mL of the sample to flow out, denoted as S, which is the viscosity of the sample.
6. Report: The same sample shall be tested in parallel at least twice. When the difference between the two measurements is not greater than 4% of the average, the integer of the average value shall be taken as the test result.
7. Precision or allowable deviation: The allowable deviation for repeatability testing is 4% of the average value.
6、 Attention:
1. Open box inspection: Check if the instrument has malfunctioned due to transportation.
2. Check for missing parts according to the packing list and promptly notify our sales department or distributor.
3. Remember to add water to the sink before turning on the power to prevent damage to the heating tube caused by dry burning.
4. To ensure safety, please connect the ground wire.
