Debugging and calibration of float level transmitter
Date: 2025-10-11Read: 8

As a high-precision liquid level measuring instrument, float level transmitters are widely used in various industries such as petroleum, chemical, and power. It is based on Archimedes' principle of buoyancy, which detects the height of the liquid level by measuring the change in buoyancy of the float in the liquid, and converts this change into a standard signal output to achieve accurate measurement and remote monitoring of the liquid level

The debugging and calibration of float level transmitters are key steps to ensure their long-term stability and accurate measurement. There are two main methods for debugging: hanging weight method and water calibration method
  1. Hanging weight method debugging
-The hanging weight method is suitable for laboratory debugging or situations where there is no water source on site. Firstly, buoyancy calculation is required: the buoyancy of the buoy is F1=π/4 · D · H ·ρ, and the difference between the weight of the buoy G and buoyancy is F2=G-F1. Among them, D is the outer diameter of the float (cm), H is the length of the float (cm), and ρ is the density of the medium (g/cm)
-During zero point debugging, place a weight equal to the weight of float G on the tray (including the weight of the tray), adjust the zero position potentiometer to output 4mA. During full-scale debugging, place a weight equal to F2 on the tray (including the weight of the tray), adjust the range potentiometer to output 20mA. Repeat the adjustment several times until satisfactory
  2. Water calibration method debugging
-Preparation work: Isolate the float from the process equipment, close the upper and lower shut-off valves, open the drain valve to empty and clean the measuring cylinder;
-Modify parameters: temporarily change the medium density set in the transmitter to 1.0 g/cm (density of water);
-Zero calibration: after ensuring that the measuring cylinder is empty, adjust the transmitter so that its output is 4mA (or 0%);
-Full calibration: Close the drain valve, fill the measuring cylinder with clean water, adjust the transmitter to output 20mA (or display 100%);
-Linear inspection: Slowly drain and refill water, observe whether the liquid level changes smoothly and linearly, without any jumps or dead zones;
-Resume use: After calibration is complete, change the density parameter back to the actual medium density, tighten the exhaust plug, and use the instrument according to the steps.
