Chicheng Electric -2020 Underground Space Innovation and Development Summit Forum

On August 19-21, 2020, the Underground Space Innovation Competition and Innovation Development Summit Forum with the theme of "Innovative Development" was successfully held in Changsha City!

This forum is hosted by the Comprehensive Pipe Gallery Construction and Underground Space Utilization Professional Committee of the China Municipal Engineering Association and the Underground Space Branch of the China Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering. It is organized by China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau and China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau Third Company.

The theme of the forum is to explore new technologies for underground space utilization, summarize new processes for underground space construction, enhance industry development enthusiasm, and promote the healthy and sustainable development of our underground space industry.

Seven engineering academicians including Qian Qihu, winner of the Home Science and Technology Award, leaders of relevant associations such as the China Municipal Engineering Association, the China Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, and China State Construction Engineering Co., Ltd., as well as industry experts, attended the forum. The Pipe Gallery Department of Henan Chicheng Electric Co., Ltd. also actively participated.

The expert group exchanged and discussed the current status and development of underground spaces.

Currently, as the scale of our city continues to expand, the saturation of above ground space has brought about a series of urban problems, such as deteriorating living environment and public services, traffic congestion and tidal traffic, prominent "heat island effect", and severe urban waterlogging, making the development of underground urban space an urgent new issue.

And I am a home with a large demand and scale for underground space development and utilization. The overall development and utilization of underground space has gone through the initialization stage, scaling stage, and networking stage, and will enter the ecological stage in the future.

We need to summarize our development experience, apply new technologies, concepts, and disciplinary integration methods to enhance the high-quality development level of underground space, and achieve the goal of innovative development.

01. Development advantages of underground space

The development potential of urban underground space is great. If it can be reasonably developed and utilized, it will be of great significance for improving the urban environment, alleviating urban transportation, improving the efficiency of urban operation, and achieving intensive urban development. Underground space is a huge and abundant spatial resource. While developing underground transportation and reducing urban air pollution, some cities actively construct public tunnels and underground pipe galleries for urban underground municipal pipelines, including tap water, sewage pipes, heating pipes, cables, and communication lines. This can shorten the length of the route by up to 30% and is easy to inspect and repair, without affecting the use of surface land.

02. Safety issues in underground space construction

Compared with above ground buildings, underground spaces have the characteristics of relatively enclosed space, few external exits, small ventilation area, and difficult smoke exhaust, which can easily cause major accidents such as fires, gas poisoning, and suffocation.

The oxygen in underground space is thin, but toxic and harmful gases are often much more severe than in above ground space. Pollution projects mainly include nitrogen oxides, inhalable particles, total suspended particles, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and total volatile organic compounds. Moreover, due to long-term fermentation of underground sewage and other substances, a certain amount of hydrogen sulfide and methane will be produced, posing a threat to the safety of workers.
