Just this morning at work, a customer called and asked: There is a pipeline on site that cannot be drilled, and the temperature is around 400 degrees. If you want to measure the temperature of the medium inside the pipeline, which thermometer is better to use? We recommended the PT100 three wire heating resistor with thermal block to the customer. We asked the production workshop to take product pictures and sent them to the customer for review. The customer approved and chose this type of heating resistor with thermal block.
Today we will talk about: which type of thermistor is good for measuring the outer wall temperature of pipelines?
Firstly, we thought of meeting the requirements for measuring the outer wall of the pipeline. Previously, temperature products we made such as bimetallic thermometers, PT100 thermistors, thermocouples, and integrated temperature transmitters were in direct contact with the medium, with the rod placed directly in the pipeline. Now, it is required that they cannot directly contact the medium, and only non-contact medium can be used through temperature heat conduction.
Secondly, when measuring the temperature of the outer wall of the pipeline, we recommend using a surface PT100 thermistor. The design of surface thermal resistance enables it to closely adhere to the outer wall of the pipeline, thereby accurately measuring the temperature of the outer wall of the pipeline. This type of thermal resistor usually has a shockproof structure that can adapt to the vibration of pipelines and ensure the accuracy of measurements.
Once again, we have chosen this thermistor with a thermal block to measure temperature on-site without the need for openings. It is directly attached to the outer wall of the pipeline and transfers temperature through thermal conduction. Simply open the thermometer junction box and connect it to the central control room or DCS system.
Finally, when choosing a thermal resistance measurement medium thermometer, the following aspects need to be considered:
Firstly, temperature measurement range and accuracy: Select the appropriate thermistor based on the temperature measurement range and accuracy requirements. For example, platinum thermistors are suitable for high-precision temperature measurement, with a wide temperature measurement range, but at a higher price; Nickel thermistors and copper thermistors are suitable for general temperature measurement applications and have relatively low prices
Secondly, materials: Different thermal resistance materials are suitable for different environments and budgets. Platinum thermistors have good stability and high accuracy, but they are relatively expensive; Nickel thermistors and copper thermistors have lower prices, but slightly lower accuracy and stability
Thirdly, anti-corrosion performance: If the temperature measurement environment of the outer wall of the pipeline is harsh, such as high temperature, corrosive media, etc., it is necessary to choose a thermistor with anti-corrosion performance. The anti-corrosion platinum resistor adopts a multi-layer anti-corrosion structure, which can effectively extend its service life.
Note: In the future, when purchasing temperature measuring products, please choose suitable products and consider factors such as the temperature measurement range, accuracy, material, and anti-corrosion performance of the measured medium to ensure the accuracy of the measurement and the long-term stability of the equipment.
