What is the difference between liquid turbine flowmeter and electromagnetic flowmeter?
Date: 2025-08-04Read: 8

Last Saturday morning around 9 o'clock, a customer called to inquire about which type of flow meter is good for measuring ammonia water? We listened to the customer's request and first inquired about the on-site pipe diameter, pressure, temperature, flow range, and what functions are required? What are the requirements for remote transmission signals? What is the installation method? The specific purchase quantity, delivery time, and other requirements require a batch of ammonia water flow meters from the customer due to the ammonia water dosing device. The ammonia water flow meters are used to achieve quantitative dosing of ammonia water, ensuring stable and reliable concentration and dosage of ammonia water required during the production process. After the customer replied to our parameter requirements, we went to the production workshop to take videos and clear photos of the product. Considering the influence of the viscosity, density, and temperature changes of the medium, we recommended the customer to choose an electromagnetic flowmeter, which was highly recognized by the customer.

Today we will talk about the difference between liquid turbine flowmeter and electromagnetic flowmeter?

Firstly, let's talk about the liquid turbine flowmeter

Working principle of liquid turbine flowmeter: The rotational speed of the liquid turbine flowmeter is detected by a sensing coil installed outside the casing. When the turbine flowmeter blades cut the magnetic field lines generated by the magnetic steel inside the casing, it will cause changes in the magnetic flux in the sensing coil. The sensing coil sends the detected magnetic flux periodic change signal to the preamplifier, amplifies and shapes the signal, generates a pulse signal proportional to the flow rate, and sends it to the unit conversion and flow integration circuit to obtain and display the accumulated flow value; At the same time, the pulse signal is also sent to the frequency current conversion circuit, which converts the pulse signal into an analog current quantity and indicates the instantaneous flow rate value.

The advantages of turbine flowmeter are high accuracy and wide measurement range, as well as simple structure and easy maintenance. However, turbine flow meters are sensitive to the viscosity of the medium, and there will be a certain pressure loss after the flow meter. In addition, inaccurate measurements are also prone to occur in low traffic situations.

Next, let's talk about: electromagnetic flowmeter

Working principle of electromagnetic flowmeter: The measurement principle of electromagnetic flowmeter is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. When a conductive liquid flows through an electromagnetic flowmeter, a voltage proportional to the average flow velocity V (volumetric flow rate) is generated in the conductive liquid. The induced voltage signal is detected by two electrodes in contact with the liquid, transmitted to the amplifier through a cable, and then converted into a unified output signal. Based on the measurement principle of electromagnetic flowmeter, it is required that the flowing liquid has a limited conductivity.

The advantages of electromagnetic flowmeter include high measurement accuracy, no pressure loss, large range, strong corrosion resistance, wide applicability, sensitive response, easy installation, digital signal processing, strong anti-interference ability, and diverse display modes.

What is the difference between liquid turbine flowmeter and electromagnetic flowmeter?

We prefer electromagnetic flow meters based on the characteristics of ammonia water. Due to the low viscosity of ammonia water and the presence of certain ions and metal elements, the use of a turbine flowmeter is susceptible to the influence of substances, resulting in inaccurate measurements. The electromagnetic flowmeter is not affected by the composition of ammonia water and can stably and accurately measure the flow rate of ammonia water. Meanwhile, electromagnetic flow meters have high corrosion resistance and reliability, making them more suitable for measuring ammonia flow rates that require long-term stable operation.

In summary, which type of flowmeter is suitable for selecting ammonia water as the measuring medium? Choose liquid turbine flowmeter or vortex flowmeter? What is the difference between liquid turbine flowmeter and electromagnetic flowmeter? As a manufacturer, we recommend choosing an electromagnetic flowmeter for ammonia flow measurement to ensure accurate, stable, and reliable measurement.
