Medical mask flame retardant performance tester
Suitable for the determination of flame retardancy of medical masks and all protective masks. Can be used by pharmaceutical inspection departments, safety testing departments, and scientific research institutions.
1.1 Testing principle
1. Use a standard energy heat source to test the mask and observe its combustion behavior. The energy of the fire source is ensured by measuring the height and temperature of the flame.
2. The time for masks or other samples to pass through the fire source is standardized, and the action time of the fire source is ensured by controlling the movement speed of the mask.
3. The combustion behavior of the sample is measured by its flame burning and flameless burning.
1.2 Testing Standards
This medical mask flame retardant performance tester meets but is not limited to the following standards:
GB 19083-2010 Technical Requirements for Medical Protective Masks;
YY 0469-2011 Medical Surgical Masks.
GB 2626-2006 "Respiratory protective equipment - Self suction filtering particulate matter respirator"

The instrument control panel is shown in the following figure:
Power supply: closing and cutting off of power supply;
Ignition: When pressed, turn on the gas switch and load the heating current of the electric heating wire. After igniting the flame, release it and cut off the heating current of the electric heating wire;
Flame regulation: Adjust the flow rate of gas and adjust the flame height;
Igniter start and return: manually control the extension and retraction of the flame, adjust the flame and extend it to the test position. After completion, press "Igniter Return" to retract the flame to the ignition position and automatically cut off the gas source;
Head mold start and return: Press the "Head mold start" button to rotate the head mold from its actual position (inside) at a fixed rate, and stop after triggering the position switch. After the end, press "Head Mold Return" to restore the head mold to the starting position;
Continued combustion stop: After the rotation of the head mold stops, the "Continued combustion time" timer automatically counts. Pressing the "Continued combustion stop" timer will end the timer, and at the same time, the "smoldering time" will automatically start counting. Pressing this button can also forcibly cut off the gas;
Stop smoldering: Stop the "smoldering time" timer;
Zeroing: Stop and reset of timing display;
Flame temperature: displays the temperature of the flame;
Continuation time and smoldering time: Display the duration of sample continuation and smoldering.
experiment
Connect the power socket on the back cover of the instrument, connect the air inlet to the propane cylinder, open the cylinder valve, and connect the gas source.
Close the front door of the combustion test chamber and place the "power" switch in the "on" position. The power indicator light will turn on.
Firstly, make the tip of the metal head mold downward, place the mask on the metal head mold, and use your hand to slightly twist the head mold. When the tip of the head mold is just above the igniter, adjust the height of the igniter head (rotate the igniter head clockwise to lower it, and counterclockwise to raise it) so that the distance between the top of the igniter and the tip of the head mold nose is 20 ± 2mm
Press the "Igniter Return" button to restore the burner to the ignition position.
Press the 'Head Mold Return' button to restore the head mold to its starting position. Press the 'reset' button to restore the instrument to its initial state.
Keep holding down the "ignition" button and adjust the "pressure adjustment" knob of the propane medium pressure valve (rotate the knob in the "+" direction to increase and in the "-" direction to decrease according to the indication at the end of the knob), so that the pressure gauge pointer on the top of the instrument box points to 20kPa.
At this point, the ignition resistor wire has turned red. Release the "ignition" button after igniting the igniter. When ignition is difficult, please adjust the "flame adjustment" button. Clockwise direction is to reduce the flow of combustible gas, and counterclockwise direction is to increase the flow of combustible gas. If the ignition fails due to some reason, in order to prevent the gas from continuing to enter and causing an explosion, press "Continuation Stop" to cut off the gas, and then press "Reset" to restore the initial state.
Open the front door of the combustion test chamber, place the flame height gauge (40mm high) in front of the flame with your hand, turn the "flame adjustment" knob to adjust the flame height to 40mm ± 2mm, and after the flame stabilizes, move the flame height gauge away. At this time, observe whether the "temperature display" on the instrument panel is stable at 800 ± 50 ℃. If it is insufficient, adjust it by increasing the inlet pressure of the gas cylinder pressure reducing valve to stabilize the flame temperature at 800 ± 50 ℃.
Press the "Igniter Start" button to move the igniter to the ignition position, press the "Head Mold Start" button to start the head mold rotation. After the head mold rotates to the desired position, the igniter stops and resets, and the "Continuation Time" automatically counts; After the continuation of combustion is completed, press the "Continuation Stop" button; If there is no reignition, simply press the "reignition stop" button, wait for the smoldering to end, then press the "smoldering stop" button, and record the reignition time and smoldering time.
Press the "Head Mold Return" button to restore the head mold to its starting position, open the front door of the combustion test chamber to remove the sample, and the test is over.
Press the "reset" button, and the instrument will return to its initial state. Place the next mask sample on the metal head mold and proceed with the next test according to steps 6-11. If the next test is not required, please turn off the power, unplug the power plug, take out the residue container, and clean up the burning residue.
To test the flame retardancy of a mask strap, it is necessary to place the mask on the metal head mold, loosen the "head mold positioning screw", and rotate the head mold to make the mask strap downward. Press the "Head Mold Start" button, and the head mold starts to rotate. When the head mold is just above the igniter, press the "smoldering stop" button to stop the head mold from rotating. Adjust the height of the igniter head so that the distance between the top of the igniter and the lower part of the head mold is 20 ± 2mm
Test according to steps 6-11. During material testing, injection molding, compression molding, or compression molding are used to create the desired shape. If the above method is not feasible, samples should be cut from representative samples of the material. After production, use fine sandpaper to polish the cutting surfaces of the incision flat and smooth, carefully removing all dust and particles from the surface. The sample size should be at least 60mm long and 60mm wide (inside the fixture). The initial thickness values include: 0.1mm ± 0.02mm, 0.2mm ± 0.02mm, 0.4mm ± 0.05mm, 0.75mm ± 0.10mm, 1.5mm ± 0.15mm, 3.0mm ± 0.2mm, or 6.0mm ± 0.4mm.
When conducting finished product testing, if possible, the sample should be a complete finished product; If the experiment cannot be conducted on the complete finished product, you can:
a) Cut a piece from the component that needs to be inspected;
b) Make a small hole on the complete finished product to make contact with the hot wire;
c) Take out the components that need to be inspected from the complete finished product and conduct separate tests.
3. Precautions
1. The experiment must be conducted in a fume hood.
2. The instrument must have a good grounding wire
3. The storage area for instruments and gas cylinders must strictly prohibit smoking and fire, eliminate ignition sources, and promptly extinguish samples that are still smoldering after testing. Carbon dioxide and other firefighting equipment should be installed.
4. Before starting up, it is necessary to carefully check the gas pipeline and strictly prohibit gas leakage.
5. Operators should wear protective clothing and gloves to prevent hand injuries or burns.
6. The workspace should be equipped with an exhaust fan to immediately eliminate harmful gases and replace with fresh air after testing.
7. At the end of the experiment, be sure to turn off the gas source first, press and hold the "ignition" button, light the igniter until the gas in the tube is completely burned out, and then turn off the power.
8. After the igniter is started, if it stops for some reason, please press the "Igniter Return" button. Wait for the igniter to return to the ignition position, then press the "Reset" button. After resetting the working state, operate it again.
9. If the gas source is connected and the "ignition" button is pressed, but the igniter does not ignite, please check if the igniter port is blocked and remove any attachments.
