Wastewater industry composite pH electrode: refers to an instrument used to determine the pH value of a solution. A pH meter operates based on the principle of a primary battery. The electromotive force between the two electrodes of the primary battery is determined by Nernst's law, which is related to both the electrode properties and the concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution. There is a corresponding relationship between the electromotive force of the primary battery and the concentration of hydrogen ions, and the negative logarithm of the concentration of hydrogen ions is the pH value.
If there is an excess of hydrogen ion H+, the solution becomes acidic. Acid is a substance that can ionize hydrogen ions H+in aqueous solutions. Similarly, if OH - ions are ionized, the solution becomes alkaline. So, giving the H+value is sufficient to indicate the characteristics of the solution, whether it is acidic or alkaline. In order to avoid using this molecular concentration negative exponent for calculation, biologist Soernsen suggested in 1909 to replace this inconvenient value with a logarithm and define it as "pH value". Mathematically, pH is defined as the commonly used logarithmic negative value of hydrogen ion concentration. PH=- log [H+]
At present, the potentiometric analysis method is used in industry to measure the pH value of water: the electrode used in the potentiometric analysis method is called the primary battery. A primary battery is a system that converts chemical reaction energy into electrical energy. The voltage of this battery is called electromotive force (EMF). This electromotive force (EMF) is composed of two half cells, one of which is called the indicator electrode, and its potential is related to a specific ion activity, such as H+; the other half cell is the reference half cell, usually called the reference electrode, which is usually connected to the measuring solution and connected to the measuring instrument (MX-PHYB-01). Thus effectively measuring and detecting the acidity and alkalinity in water quality.
