Shanghai Yichuan Steam Flow MeterThe installation diagram is a visual display of the installation of steam flow meters. It is understood that one-third of flow meter problems are caused by improper installation. It is evident that understanding the installation diagram of steam flow meters is crucial.
At the measuring point, steam should be kept as dry as possible. Wet steam may cause inaccurate measurement and damage certain types of flow meters. A simple and effective method to obtain dry steam is to install a steam water separator upstream of the flow meter. The water entering the separator collides with the baffle, and the water droplets flow along the baffle to the bottom and are discharged through a suitable type of drain valve. Independent experiments have shown that using an efficient steam water separator as shown in Figure 4.5.1 can achieve a steam dryness of 99% over a wide flow range.

A pipeline filter should be installed upstream of the flowmeter (see figure below). Filters can remove large welding slag, iron filings, and other pipeline debris, which may damage downstream equipment if not removed. The filter screen should be cleaned regularly, especially during the debugging phase or newly installed equipment.

If the diameter of the flowmeter is smaller than the diameter of the pipeline it is installed in, eccentric diameter reduction should be used. This can prevent condensation water from accumulating at low points - this problem occurs when using concentric diameter reduction. Reducing the diameter should be done as close as possible to the flowmeter while ensuring the straight pipe section of the flowmeter.
