Maintenance method for plug-in temperature sensor
Date: 2025-11-26Read: 12

Regular basic maintenance

Regularly clean the probeThe probe directly contacts the measured medium and is prone to attaching oil stains, dust, scale, or material residues, which can cause thermal conduction obstruction and measurement lag. When cleaning, power off first and handle according to the type of attachment: wipe ordinary dust with a dry soft cloth or brush; Wipe the oil stains with anhydrous ethanol; Soak scale/crystallization in xiyansuan (concentration 5% -10%) for 5-10 minutes and rinse with clean water,Do not scrape with hard objectsTo avoid damaging the protective layer of the temperature sensing element.

Check for physical damageDuring each inspection, observe the appearance of the probe. If any deformation, cracks, or corrosion spots appear (especially in high temperature, acidic or alkaline environments), the probe should be replaced in a timely manner to prevent the medium from penetrating the interior and damaging the components; At the same time, check if the probe is securely installed to avoid vibration causing depth deviation or looseness during insertion.

Line and connector maintenanceRegularly check the sensor's lead wires and wiring terminals for aging, damage, oxidation, looseness, and other conditions. For oxidized terminals, they can be lightly sanded with fine sandpaper and then re tightened; Outdoor or humid environments require waterproof protection for wiring, and loose insulation layers should be wrapped to prevent short circuits or signal distortion.

Special environmental maintenance

High temperature environment (such as boilers, kilns)In such scenarios, the probe is susceptible to high-temperature oxidation and thermal fatigue. Regularly check whether the high-temperature resistant coating of the probe has peeled off, and if a thermocouple sensor is used, also check whether the electrode wire is aging; It is recommended to disassemble and inspect every 3-6 months. If there are signs of coating peeling or electrode wire melting, immediately replace the probe with a high-temperature resistant material (such as platinum rhodium material).

Corrosive environment (such as chemical media, acid-base solutions)Sensors are usually equipped with corrosion-resistant probes (such as Hastelloy or PTFE materials). During maintenance, it is important to check whether the protective layer is damaged. If pinholes or cracks appear, they should be replaced in a timely manner to prevent corrosive media from corroding the internal temperature sensing components; At the same time, shorten the cleaning cycle to prevent the long-term adhesion and accelerated damage of corrosive media.

Damp/dusty environment (such as cold storage, food processing workshop)A humid environment can easily cause the circuit to become damp and the terminals to mold. It is necessary to regularly blow the junction box with dry compressed air and place desiccants inside the junction box; In scenes with high levels of dust, dust covers can be added to the probe and the cover should be cleaned daily to avoid dust accumulation.

Vibration environment (such as pump body, pipeline)Vibration can cause the probe to loosen and the circuit to break. An anti vibration bracket needs to be installed to fix the probe, and the fastening of the fixing bolts should be checked regularly; Install corrugated pipes to protect the outgoing lines and reduce the pulling of vibration on the circuit.

Accuracy calibration and parameter maintenance

Regularly calibrate accuracyAfter long-term use, the characteristics of the temperature sensing element will drift, leading to an increase in measurement errors. The calibration cycle is determined based on the usage scenario: recommended for industrial production scenariosCalibrate every 6-12 monthsHigh precision scenarios (such as scientific research and medical) require calibration every 3 months; Calibration should use standard thermometer comparison method or professional calibrator. If the error exceeds the allowable range, parameters need to be adjusted or sensors need to be replaced.

Record parameters and replacement cycleEstablish and maintain a ledger to record the installation time, calibration data, and fault conditions of sensors. The core components of different types of sensors have a fixed service life. For example, the normal service life of platinum resistors is about 2-3 years, and that of thermocouples is about 1-2 years (shortened to 6-12 months in high temperature environments). Even if there are no obvious faults after expiration, preventive replacement is recommended.

Shutdown and Storage Maintenance

Shutdown, disassembly, and maintenanceDuring equipment overhaul, disassemble the plug-in sensor as a whole and thoroughly clean the probe and circuit; Check if the internal wiring is secure and replace the aging lead wires as a whole; For sensors that have been used in harsh environments for a long time, voltage and insulation tests can be conducted to ensure their performance is intact.

Idle storage requirementsAfter cleaning the idle sensors, wrap the probes in moisture-proof paper and place them in a dry packaging box; Avoid squeezing with heavy objects and stay away from high temperature, humidity, and corrosive environments; Record the calibration status before storage, and recalibrate before reusing.
