Agilent 34970A is a high-performance, low-cost data acquisition and switching host that is highly suitable for data recording, data acquisition, and general switching and control applications. It is a half rack wide host with a 61/2 bit (22 bit) digital voltmeter inside. There are three slots on the back that can accept a combination of switch and control modules. Whether you only need a few simple data recording channels or hundreds of ATE performance channels, the Agilent 34970A can meet your data collection requirements at a reasonable price.

The Agilent 34970A includes the functional features of our best-selling desktop digital multimeter (DMM), and you will benefit from proven Agilent performance, universal input with internal signal conditioning, all at a low price point, compact data acquisition structure, and more. The 34970A has a resolution of 61/2 bits (22 bits), a basic DC voltage accuracy of 0.004%, and extremely low reading noise. With a scanning rate of up to 250 channels/s, you can achieve the speed and accuracy required to complete work tasks

Strong adaptability

The unique design of Agilent 34970A allows for channel by channel configuration, achieving maximum flexibility and quick and convenient setting of internal automatic range conversion. DMM has 11 different direct measurement functions without the need for expensive external signal adjustments. The internal temperature conversion program can display unprocessed thermocouple, RTD, or thermistor inputs in C, F, or Kelvin. The output of linear sensors can be directly converted to engineering units using Mx+B calibration. You can even set high/low alarm limits to monitor situations where the tolerance is exceeded.

Change configuration with development

3 module slots and 8 switch and control modules can be configured with Agilent 34970A to meet your unique needs. You can only buy the parts you needed at the time and add more modules as your application develops in the future. Up to 120 inputs can be measured using one and a half rack units.

Free Agilent BenchLink software simplifies data collection

If you require PC based data recording capabilities but do not want to spend time programming, Agilent BenchLink DataLogger can solve this problem. This software allows you to set up your testing, collection, and archiving management of measurement data, as well as real-time display and analysis of the obtained data.

The familiar electronic watch environment makes it easy to configure and control testing, and the rich color * * shapes provide many options for displaying your data - all of which are easy to click controls, and various graphics can be created using bar charts, histograms, X-Y scatter plots, warning lights, etc. In addition, using Agilent BenchLink Data Logger can easily send data to other applications for further analysis, or include it in your displays and reports.

When the Agilent 34901A 20 channel relay multiplexer is configured, the 34970A becomes a compact, low-cost data logger that is highly suitable for rapid testing in the laboratory or on-site. The intuitive panel with a self guided menu and bright, easy to read vacuum fluorescent display make independent settings both fast and convenient. All readings are automatically time stamped and stored in a memory of -50000 readings - enough to hold valuable data for a week (scanning 20 channels every 5 minutes). Non volatile memory can store data even after power failure, allowing the 34970A to collect data at the source and upload it to the PC later. The system configuration is also saved in non-volatile memory, so it can automatically resume scanning after power failure and reconnection. In addition, the Agilent BenchLink Data Logger software can simplify test configuration, data analysis, and data management during basic PC testing.

For automated testing and desktop automation applications, the Agilent 34970A's 3 slots and 8 plug-in switch and control module options allow for convenient configuration. The 61/2-bit internal DMM provides you with the performance and functionality of an independent application DMM, but occupies only a fraction of its space and price. Provide software drivers that support Agilent VEE and National Instruments Lab VIEW, making it easy to integrate 34970A into your system. Standard RS-232 and GPIB interfaces, as well as SCPI programming language, make this integration more convenient. For testing applications that do not require internal measurement of 34970A, units without internal DMM can be ordered. This provides an ultra-low price solution for providing a pathway for test signals to enter and exit the tested component, and for distributing various instruments such as external DMMs, oscilloscopes, counters, power supplies, etc. In addition, if your needs change, you can also add DMM in the future.

Module Introduction

*Multiple modules of any combination can be inserted into a host, and the internal DMM connection of 34970A can only be accessed through the 34901, 34902A, and 34908A multiplexers. The accuracy index of 34970A already includes transfer offset and reference node error, as shown in the table below. These errors are listed separately to determine system errors with external measurement devices.

The 34901A 20 channel multiplexer is a versatile module used for general purpose scanning, combining dense multifunctional switches with a scanning rate of 60 channels/s, suitable for various data acquisition applications.


The 34902A 16 channel high-speed multiplexer utilizes reed relays to achieve a scanning rate of up to 250 channels/s. This module is ideal for efficient automated testing applications and high-speed data recording and monitoring tasks.


The 34908A 40 channel single ended multiplexer is suitable for high-density public low applications such as battery testing, component I testing, and desktop testing.


The 34903A 20 channel universal switch module is suitable for connecting and disconnecting power supply, controlling indicators and status lights, exciting relays that require large external driving signals, and establishing conventional switch configurations for the tested product.


34904A is a dual line 4 * 8 fully crossed matrix that provides a flexible connection path between the test piece and the testing equipment, allowing different instruments to simultaneously connect to multiple points on the test piece.


The 34905A and 34906A RF multiplexers provide broadband switching capability for high-frequency and pulse signals up to 2GHz. They can be used to form a test signal path between the tested component and signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, video amplifiers, or receivers.


The 34907A multifunctional module provides great flexibility for various sensing and control applications, integrating two 8-bit digital input and output ports, a 100kHz gating adder, and two ± 12V analog outputs - all in one module.
