AlgaeWatch is a continuous monitoring device that uses chlorophyll fluorescence to monitor algal growth. Chlorophyll a is a fluorescent molecule that is the fundamental photosynthetic pigment in all plants. Organic tissues containing chlorophyll are small enough (such as phytoplankton or microalgae) to directly measure its fluorescence without the need for extraction or chemical treatment.
AlgaeWatch consists of a microprocessor based fluorescence meter, electronic input/output flow switch, 4-20mA signal output, and data acquisition.
