During the operation of water treatment and bathing equipment, scaling of RO membranes may occur. After a period of normal operation, membrane products may be contaminated by suspended solids or insoluble salts that may exist in the water supply. Common pollutants include calcium carbonate precipitation, calcium sulfate precipitation, metal (iron, manganese, copper, nickel, aluminum, etc.) oxide precipitation, silicon deposition, inorganic or organic deposition mixtures, NOM natural organic matter, synthetic organic matter (such as scale inhibitors/dispersants, cationic polymeric electrolytes), microorganisms, etc.
The pollution nature and speed of water treatment and bathing equipment depend on various factors, such as water quality and system recovery rate. Pollution usually develops gradually, and if not controlled early, it will damage membrane components in a relatively short period of time. When it is confirmed that the membrane element has been contaminated, or before long-term shutdown, or as a regular routine maintenance, it is recommended to clean the membrane element.
So, how to prevent scaling of RO membranes in water treatment and bathing equipment in Shandong?
1. Carry out pre-treatment of raw water to ensure SOI<4, and add disinfectants to prevent the growth of microorganisms;
2. In RO operation, it is necessary to maintain an appropriate working pressure. Generally, an increase in working pressure also increases the water production, but excessive pressure can cause membrane compaction.
3. During RO operation, the flocculent state of concentrated water should be maintained to reduce the concentration polarization of the membrane surface solution and avoid the precipitation of insoluble salts on the membrane surface;
4. When the RO is shut down, short-term flushing should be carried out with added chemicals, and long-term protection with CH2O protective solution should be added.
5. When the RO water production significantly decreases or the salt content increases, surface scaling or pollution should be carried out, and chemical cleaning should be performed.
