Rotating frequency converter

A rotary frequency converter is a unit composed of an electric motor and a generator. Unlike transformers, frequency converter units can convert voltage and frequency through machine combinations with different numbers of poles. Typical applications are 50/60 Hz, 50/50 Hz, or 60/60 Hz.

The frequency converter can disconnect the power supply and perform effective filtering because the primary and secondary parts are mechanically coupled rather than magnetically coupled.

The inverter unit can be composed of asynchronous motors, synchronous motors, or a combination of both. The combination of asynchronous motor and synchronous generator is the most common.

Asynchronous drivers are mainly used to generate higher frequencies, while synchronous converter units provide load independent speed and better voltage stability.
