As the name suggests, a split type mass flow meter means that the mass flow sensor and transmitter are installed separately. It is recommended to use split installation for the following concentrated situations
1. Medium with operating temperature above 300 degrees Celsius or below -160 degrees Celsius

2. In situations where pipeline vibration is significant
3. In situations where the aluminum casing of the converter is severely corroded
4. In places with high humidity or corrosive gases on site
5. When ordering flow meters installed in high-altitude or underground environments where debugging is inconvenient, the distance between the sensor and the converter should be specified, generally not exceeding 100m. The converter should be wall mounted

Advantages and disadvantages of Coriolis mass flowmeter
Mass flowmeteradvantage
The Coriolis mass flowmeter directly measures mass flow and has high measurement accuracy.
It can measure a wide range of fluids, including various liquids with high viscosity, slurries containing solids, liquids containing trace gases, and medium to high pressure gases with sufficient density.
The vibration amplitude of the measuring tube is small and can be regarded as a non moving part. There are no obstacles or moving parts in the measuring pipeline.
Not sensitive to the distribution of upstream flow velocity, therefore there is no requirement for upstream and downstream straight pipe sections.
The measured value is not sensitive to fluid viscosity, and the influence of fluid density changes on the measured value is minimal.
It can be used for multi parameter measurement, such as measuring density at the same time, and deriving the concentration of solutes in the measurement solution from it.


Disadvantages of quality flow meters
The zero point instability of Coriolis mass flow meters leads to zero drift, which affects the further improvement of their accuracy. As a result, many models of instruments have to adopt the method of dividing the total error into two parts: basic error and zero point instability measurement.
Coriolis mass flowmeter cannot be used to measure low-density media and low-pressure gases; The gas content in a liquid exceeding a certain limit (depending on the model) will significantly affect the measured value.
Coriolis mass flow meters are sensitive to external vibration interference. To prevent the influence of pipeline vibration, most models of Coriolis mass flow meters require high installation and fixation of flow sensors.
Cannot be used for larger pipe diameters, currently limited to below 150 (200) mm.
The wear, corrosion, or deposition of scale on the inner wall of the measuring tube can affect the measurement accuracy, especially for Coriolis mass flow meters with thin-walled measuring tubes.
The pressure loss is relatively large, comparable to volumetric instruments, and some models of Coriolis mass flow meters are even 100% larger than volumetric instruments.
Most models of Coriolis mass flow meters have a large weight and volume.
The price is expensive. The foreign price ranges from 5000 to 10000 US dollars per set, which is about 2 to 5 times that of the same caliber electromagnetic flowmeter; The domestic price is about 2-8 times that of electromagnetic flow meters.

Installation and commissioning requirements for split type mass flow meters
1. Installation of flow meter
To isolate the impact of pipeline vibration on instruments, sometimes a flexible pipe is used to connect the sensor to the pipeline, and a rigid straight pipe with supporting components fixed between the flexible pipe and the sensor is also required. When installing and designing, try to ensure a long service life. To remove solid objects and mixed gases that cause premature wear and measurement errors, protective devices such as filters or gas separators should be installed upstream of the sensor according to fluid and pipeline conditions. If you want to calibrate instruments online on site, you should consider the drainage connection port and valve, as well as the corresponding space.
a、 Installation posture and position of flow sensor
The residual solids, scaling, trapped gas, etc. in the flow sensor measuring pipe will affect the measurement accuracy. Generally speaking, it is more ideal to install it in a vertical pipeline that flows from bottom to top; But for non straight measuring tube split type mass flow meters installed on vertical or horizontal pipes. It depends on the vibration condition of the pipeline and the application conditions. The installation position must be filled with liquid inside the measuring tube. For example, if the fluid flows through a split mass flowmeter on a horizontal pipeline and is directly placed in a container without back pressure, the measuring tube often cannot be filled, which will cause the output signal to fluctuate violently.
b、 Installation of globe valve and control valve
To ensure that there is no flow during zero adjustment, shut-off valves are installed upstream and downstream of the split mass flowmeter to ensure no leakage. The control valve should be installed downstream of the split mass flowmeter, which should maintain the highest possible static pressure to prevent cavitation and flash evaporation (fIashing).
c、 Pulsation and vibration
In order to prevent the occurrence of mechanical vibrations during the process and external factors from affecting the split mass flowmeter, we have inquired with our factory about the resonance frequency range of the provided split mass flowmeter, in order to determine whether the on-site pulsation or vibration frequency is close to the resonance frequency of the split mass flowmeter. You can also provide on-site vibration condition consultation to our factory to see if the following measures need to be taken, such as: 1) setting pulsation attenuators, 2) setting vibration attenuators or flexible connecting pipes, 3) special clamping and fixing equipment for flow sensors, and so on.
d、 Prevent mutual influence between split mass flow meters
Two split mass flow meters of the same model are installed in series, or multiple split mass flow meters are installed in close proximity (or parallel), especially when installed on the same support platform. The vibration of the measuring tube will cause mutual interference between the split mass flow meters, resulting in abnormal vibration, and in severe cases, the instrument may not work. Preventive measures should be taken during installation, such as:; Propose to our factory to stagger the resonance frequency values of the proximity instruments; Open the distance between the flow sensors, do not set them on the same rack, and set up independent support racks; Installation of flow sensors in opposite directions; Methods such as setting up anti vibration materials for isolation between flow sensors.
e、 Pipeline stress and distortion
When tightening the bolts between the flange of the split mass flowmeter and the pipeline flange, they should be evenly tightened to avoid causing stress on the split mass flowmeter (such as due to the non parallel planes of the two flanges of the pipeline). If a short pipe of the same length as the split mass flow meter is pre connected when laying the pipeline, it can prevent stress caused by poor pipe layout. During use, due to changes in process pressure and temperature, split mass flow meters may be subjected to axial forces or bending/twisting forces in the pipeline. Affects measurement performance, necessary fixing brackets should be provided
f、 The use of highly abrasive slurry
It is best to use a straight and single tube type for measuring highly abrasive slurries, and the measuring tube should be in a vertical position to avoid uneven wear on the tube wall and shorten its service life. However, the thinning of the pipe wall thickness will reduce the rigidity of the measuring pipe and change the flow measurement value. Therefore, regular inspections should be carried out during operation in such places to confirm the service life. Scaling or drift deposition on the inner wall structure of the measuring tube can also affect measurement accuracy, so regular cleaning is necessary.
