What are the types of flow measuring instruments? When measuring different media, different flow measuring instruments are used. This article discusses the types of flow meters and what kind of flow meter is more suitable for measuring different media.
What is a flow measuring instrument?
In theory, it is to measure the flow rate of a certain medium, such as a common civilian water meter, which is a mechanical flow measurement instrument. This article mainly discusses intelligent flow measurement instruments, which not only have mechanical functions, but also can be remotely controlled, commonly known as the Internet of Things.
Category 1: Electromagnetic flowmeter
An electromagnetic flowmeter is a device that measures the flow rate of a medium based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. So, what kind of medium can be measured using an electromagnetic flowmeter.
Let's take a look at the characteristics of electromagnetic flow meters again. They have stable measurement and 90% of flow measurement conditions on the market are measured using electromagnetic flow meters. However, during the measurement process, it is necessary to know the conductivity of the medium.
Electromagnetic flowmeter, as can be seen from its name, with an electric character, means that the medium being measured must be conductive, otherwise it cannot be measured using an electromagnetic flowmeter. Generally, the conductivity must be greater than 5us/cm before an electromagnetic flowmeter can be used for measurement.
Then there is a problem. In daily life, there are many mediums that need to be used for flow measurement. For example, soybean milk, Babao Congee and mineral water in food are conductive. In fact, in the field measurement, electromagnetic flowmeter is used to measure these working conditions, not only conductive medium, but also measurement stability and use cost.
Type 2: Throttle device - differential pressure flowmeter
What is a throttling device - differential pressure flowmeter? I believe only industry peers understand these. When it comes to throttling devices, they will think of V-cone flowmeter. V-cone flowmeter is a typical flow measurement instrument of throttling devices. What are its functions and characteristics? Let's take a look together below.
The V-cone flowmeter is a flow measurement instrument that can measure liquids and gases. Unlike electromagnetic flowmeters, which can only measure conductive liquids and non-conductive media such as gases and edible oils, electromagnetic flowmeters cannot solve this problem. For V-cone flowmeters, this is their strength.
The V-cone flowmeter also has the characteristic of high temperature and high pressure resistance. In terms of its measurement method, if 90% of the measured conditions can be solved by electromagnetic flowmeters, then the V-cone flowmeter can solve almost all flow measurement conditions.
Speaking of which, I believe many of you may have an idea. If you cannot confirm which flow meter to use to solve the problem when measuring the flow rate on site, can you directly use a V-cone flow meter for measurement.
Here is a friendly reminder that this is completely possible. The measurement accuracy that electromagnetic flow meters can achieve can also be met by V-cone flow meters, and V-cone flow meters have better stability, which can improve the efficiency of on-site use.
For the electromagnetic flowmeter and V-cone flowmeter mentioned in this article, they are actually commonly used flowmeters. Choosing an electromagnetic flowmeter not only has high measurement accuracy, but also has a high cost-effectiveness during use. For the V-cone flowmeter, its usage cost is slightly higher, but it can demonstrate its advantages when measuring high-temperature and high-pressure media.
