An electromagnetic flowmeter consists of two main parts: an electromagnetic flow sensor and an electromagnetic flow converter.

The measurement principle of electromagnetic flowmeter is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. The main components of the sensor are the measuring tube, electrode, excitation coil, iron core and yoke, and housing. The measuring tube of the sensor is a non-magnetic alloy short tube lined with insulating material, with a diameter of D. Two electrodes are fixed on the measuring tube through the tube wall along the diameter direction, and their electrode heads are basically flush with the inner surface of the lining. When the excitation coil is excited by bidirectional square wave pulses, a working magnetic field with a magnetic flux density of B is generated in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the measuring tube. At this point, if a fluid with a certain conductivity flows through the measuring tube at an average flow velocity V, an electromotive force E will be induced by cutting the magnetic field lines. The electromotive force E is proportional to the magnetic flux density B. The product of the inner diameter D of the measuring tube and the average flow velocity V is E ∝ BVD. The electromotive force E (flow signal) is detected by electrodes and sent to the converter through cables. The converter amplifies and processes the flow signal to display the flow rate and total amount, and can output signals such as pulses and analog currents. The converter of LDG type electromagnetic flowmeter is an intelligent instrument with Chinese character LCD display.
