The vortex flowmeter utilizes the Karman vortex principle for flow measurement. When a fluid flows through a non streamlined object placed in a pipeline (such as a vortex generator), vortices will alternate on both sides downstream, forming two asymmetric and regular vortex columns, which is called Karman vortex street. According to the theory of fluid mechanics, the frequency of a vortex is directly proportional to the velocity of the fluid, and the flow rate of the fluid can be calculated by measuring the frequency of the vortex.
