Rapid detection of organic pollutants - oxygen consumption: principles, operations, and limit standards
Oxygen consumption is a key indicator that indirectly reflects the degree of organic pollution in water quality. Through rapid detection, the organic pollution status of drinking water and source water can be efficiently determined, providing a basis for water quality safety assessment.
1、 Detection significance and limit standards
In this method, each drop of C test solution corresponds to an oxygen consumption of approximately 0.333mg/L, which can be used to quickly determine whether the water quality meets the standard based on the consumption of C test solution
  • drinking waterAccording to the national standard, the oxygen consumption should be ≤ 3mg/L, and the maximum consumption of the corresponding C test solution should not exceed 9 drops;

  • Source waterThe national standard stipulates that the oxygen consumption should be ≤ 5mg/L, and the maximum consumption of the corresponding C test solution should not exceed 15 drops.

2、 Core operational steps
  1. Cone bottle pretreatmentAdd 15 drops of test solution A and 5 drops of test solution C to a 50mL conical flask, and boil in a water bath for 2-3 minutes; After removal, titrate with D test solution until the solution turns slightly red, discard the solution, and complete the cleaning of the conical flask (to avoid interference with subsequent testing).

  1. Water sample detection and titrationTake 10mL of water sample and inject it into the pre treated conical flask. Add 5 drops of test solution A and 10 drops of test solution C; Place the conical flask in a boiling water bath and let it sit precisely for 10 minutes; After taking it out, add 10 drops of D test solution while it is still hot, shake thoroughly until the red color fades away; Under a white background, titrate with C test solution drop by drop until the solution turns slightly red, which is the endpoint of titration. Record the consumption of C test solution and compare it with the limit value for judgment.
