Polyacrylamide (PAM) Manufacturing & Procurement Technical Guide
Efficient sample preparation is essential in chemical research, pharmaceutical laboratories, and quality control environments. When multiple samples require simultaneous heating and mixing, integrated laboratory equipment can simplify workflows and improve the organization of benchtop operations. The Cole-Parmer SHP-200-MP EW‑51600‑08 Three Position Stirring Hot Plate combines three independent heating and magnetic stirring stations in one instrument, providing flexibility for parallel laboratory procedures.
A key feature of this equipment is its independent heating and stirring controls. Each of the three working positions can be adjusted separately, allowing laboratory personnel to process different samples under their respective experimental conditions. This configuration is also suitable for procedures in which several samples require consistent heating and mixing at the same time. All three positions operate through a single mains power connection, helping reduce the need for multiple separate instruments and power connections.

The magnetic stirring system uses powerful magnets to drive magnetic stir bars through a rotating magnetic field. As the stir bars rotate inside liquid samples, continuous circulation is generated without requiring a mechanical stirring shaft to enter the containers. This arrangement supports common laboratory procedures such as dissolution, liquid mixing, and sample preparation. The instrument is supplied with PTFE-coated magnetic stir bars for its working positions.
Heating performance is supported by an aluminium and silicon alloy top plate, designed to distribute temperature evenly across the heating surface. Independent adjustment of heating and stirring functions allows operators to select an appropriate operating arrangement for different experimental procedures.
Temperature safety is another important consideration. Each heating position has an individual flashing Hot warning light that indicates when the corresponding plate temperature exceeds the specified safety threshold. The warning indicator continues functioning after the heating function has been switched off, provided that the instrument remains connected to the mains supply. This feature reminds operators that residual heat may remain on the surface after use.
The instrument is suitable for applications in chemical research, pharmaceutical sample preparation, quality control testing, educational laboratories, and material dissolution procedures. Its three-position configuration enables several sample preparation tasks to be conducted within one shared benchtop unit.
To maintain reliable operation, laboratory personnel should inspect the heating surfaces and magnetic stir bars before use. Containers should be positioned appropriately, and stirring conditions should be monitored during operation. After an experiment, the heating functions should be switched off and the plate allowed to cool before cleaning. Regular removal of sample residues and inspection of visible components can help maintain the equipment's operating condition.
By integrating independent heating and magnetic stirring functions, an aluminium and silicon alloy top plate, and individual residual-heat warning indicators, this three-position laboratory hot plate provides a practical solution for simultaneous sample processing and routine laboratory preparation.
