According to the relevant requirements of the standard, in a mechanism composed of a frame, loading device, indentation depth indicator device, timing device, and indenter (embedded with steel balls of specified diameter), the loading device vertically presses the indenter into the surface of the specimen under a given test load, and maintains the average pressure per unit indentation area for a certain period of time.
